    Liberty steak!

Anyways, it's nice to see Congress doing such an important thing while our rights are being taken away, our economy is tanking, and we're on the verge of an unjust war.

You're saying the Shrub is a loser? You'll find no disagreement with me.

Um... the people that say Congress is wasting time when they could be doing 'important' things fail to realize that Congress isn't in session 24/7 passing bills of vital importance to the union.

They have plenty of free time, and this is something they can do by themselves, without having Presidential approval.

Yes, but this is an important time for the US. There should be rational discussions on war in Iraq rather than idiotic Francophobia.

Congress already authorized the President to use force. There are not enough votes to rescind that authorization. Hence, debates on the war would be a waste of time.

Yes, but debates are intended to change minds.

When someone proposes a bill, then maybe there will be debate, which will end quickly when the majority either votes it down or tables the bill.

Congress doesn't just have random debate time, you know?

There is no "Francophobia". Phobia means fear. No one is afraid of France. People are, quite rightly, pissed off that our supposed ally is not merely disagreeing with us, which would be fine, but actively, busily opposing us.

The french fries thing is a silly, but symbolic, act.

I certainly hope we take some more serious action.

Yes, and anti-war folk should keep on bringing it up. And they should spend time seriously debating the war instead of doing idiotic things like this.

Fine. An irrational hatred of all things French. Better?

Yes, an ally is to do what it is told by its other allies. An alliance isn't a one-way relationship.

No, not better, because it has nothing to do with hatred. Fear. And its not irrational just because you disagree with it.

Anyway, you don't seem to be reading. I don't mind that they disagree. I don't mind that they refuse to help. Both things are within the scope of the concept "ally". Active opposition is not.

You have a narrow view of what an ally is. An ally doesn't drop its own interests for the supposed interests of its "ally." It's a two-way relationship. France isn't our vassal. The UK is.

And it will keep getting tabled, and there will be no debate on it. The motion for tabling does not include debate on the merits of the bill itself, but on why the bill should be considered (ie, what is new about this).

It doesn't? So what does an ally do? Run around the world actively stirring up opposition to its other ally? If so, why do we want allies?

The US isn't exactly being the best ally to France either.

It's been pursuing an Iraq war since 2001, and hasn't listened to its allies' objections.

So suck it. You get what you give. You've been feeding the Euros ****, and they'll feed it back to you.
