Cal State: Sac is in downtown Sacramento, bordering the American River. It might be pricy there.

I almost moved to Fresno about five years ago. My company was getting ready to transfer me, then they just decided to close the division instead.

I've applied for a couple internships in San Diego for this summer, so if all goes well I'll be moving there and moving in with my girlfriend.

Man this thread is right up my alley.

I was born and raised and Fresno (Clovis actually), and the went to school at UC Davis (which is just over the causeway from Sac), worked around there for a couple years. Pretty much I spent from 1974-1993 in Fresno, and 1993-2002 in Sacto.

Sac is much nicer than Fresno, just more to do. I really enjoyed growing up in Fresno, but wouldn't recommend anyone moving there, unless you gots kids and can get into the good schools.

Sac is great. On top of the Kings Games, the also have a farm team their for baseball, I think they're called the River Cats. They got a nice new stadium near Old Sac. Speaking of Old Sac, they got some good comedy clubs and really nice bars in there that are frequented by tourists and college kids. Also, the area around Arden Fair (the mall near Cal Expo, which is where they hold the state fair) has a lot of bars, restaurants, and hangouts for everyone.... Including a lovely "gay oriented" bar.

Arco Areana, where the Kings play, also has a lot of concerts moving though there. Good venue, can hold a lot of people.

Of course SF is close, and quick to get to. Raider's, Niners, Giants, A's, Warriors, and Sharks all with 2 hours of Sac. Napa is also rather close, about 2 hours. Tahoe use to be retreat for my wife and I. We use to run up for the night, gamble, and drive back down without ever getting a room. You can make it in under 2 hours if you drive fast and 50 aint backed up. Reno is o-k, but I would rather go to Tahoe. Lots of good hicking in them thar hills, also really good fishing and rafting on the American river, or up at the Feather branch near Chico!!!

If you tell me where your job is located I could probably give you a good idea of the area, and some hot spots. I would try to live closer to work than farther as traffic can be bad at times.

Downtown Sac can be nice if you don't mind living with a bunch of college kids. El Dorado Hills, just East of Sac, is the shick place to live, with their million dollar houses over looking Folsom. I have a friend who lives up by Arco (near the airport) and him and his honey have a nice new track house. Other suburbs such as Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, and Rockland can be nice. I would stay from El Camino, since it is a hit or miss area, and wouldn't touch S. Sac with a ten foot pool (or anything just south of the 80). You could do well in Elk Groove (further south of Sac, where Apple has a plant), but my experience with that area is that it is rather dry, very familly oriented, gotta go to Sac for ANY action.

If you take 50E towards Tahoe, from the 99/80 you will find a lot of strip clubs (Centerfolds!), but you didn't hear that from me.

Let me know what kind of environment you are looking for and the area of your job and I can give you some pointers.

Oh, yeah, on a side note, apart from living in that area for 8 years both my parents family are from there, so I spent a lot of time there growing up. And now, I wasn't spending my 8 years there in Folsom Prison.

I really like that area and am trying to get back, perhaps a job in Vacaville.

            Oh the weather:

There are two seasons: Africa Hot and Damn Cold

It will either be 90-100+ or 30-40

The Army Core of Engineers really messed with the areas so it floods in a lot of areas. Especially near the river (American River).

Indian Summers are not rare, and can last well into Aug/Nov.

The "Spring" time is nice however. Temperatures around 80 with a nice breeze coming through from the coast. Best time to check out the outdoor concerts the have around the downtown and on the campuses (Davis and Sac St.).

One word of note; while it gets really hot, something to which I am immuned to, it isn't a tropical hot. It is really dry, so it is not as annoying when it breachs 100 as it would be in San Diego. Just make sure your new place has Air...

Davis is pretty small. It's very rural except for the UC there.

In 1949 to Jan 51 I live outside of Kerman. Started school there in a 2 room school house name Sunset. In the summer of 86 Napa High sent its football team to Clovis. I saw your campus and was very impress.

In 95 my son live across the street from Cal Expo, a nice place to live.

Napa is an hour and if the CHP is not there about 40 min. My buddy Scott who now lives in Bakerfield made the Air Force base on 50 in one hour and ten min. from Napa.
