Voted in the middle. Fast Food is convenient, and I eat well enough at home that the occasional indulgence can't be doing much harm.

Really burgered-out lately, though. Can't find a good fish place since I left New England.

Does buying a chef salad at the local supermarket's deli count as fast food? It was fast, and it was food.

You're sick of fast food, so you decided to go further down the cuisine ladder?

Can you go further down? If you did you might have to revert to neolithic hunter-gathering.

There's a local minichain, Pachanga, which I eat at 2-4 times per week. It's has Californianized Mexican food: merinated chicken and steak, flame broiled, fresh vegetables, no lard (rare for a Mexican place). So good and so good for you.

Other than that, I eat at fast-food places maybe once a month: Subway, Hotdog-On-A-Stick, Carl's Jr. or pizza.

Yes, the Californiaized Mexican style restaurants are way more healthy then the original stuff. It seems like every thing in Mexico is deep fried or mixed with lard; it tastes good but you'll die young.

It's not nearly as cheap as cooking your own food.
                But I'm so lazy!

Seriously, I don't have the time or inclination to go home in the middle of the day to make lunch when I can get fast food in a couple minutes.

Could someone explain to a Brit - and possibly others - what sort of food do you get in a Taco Bell?

Heh. I'll pass on the tofu, but I do enjoy eating beans. Lots of fiber, protein and iron in them, and the gas a few hours later isn't so bad. For me, at any rate.

                      Nivek:

In Taco Bell, you basically get Americanized Mexican food. I prefer Taco Johns, personally.

Really bad (but really cheap) Americanized Mexican food.

So... have the small fast food stores in town been bought out by the big, mega corp ones like McDonalds in the US? In New Zealand, there are a large number of burger stores which have sole traders running them.

Not where I live. We have two McDonalds, one Burger King, one Wendys, one Hardees, three Subways, one Taco Johns, one Taco Bell, one Culvers, one Dairy Queen, and one Arbys. The remaining eating establishments in town are locally owned and operated, and there are a number of them. My immediate area only has 30,000 or so people living here, too, so we really have a good choice of places to dine out at when you look at the whole picture.

Half the reasons why I hate fast food are political. Low wages, poor working conditions, ect.... Would've expected a communist to be supportive.
