Boris, did you really expect that high school kids would react any other way? You yourself hid the fact that you were gay from you peers because you knew that the reaction would be similar.
Unfortunately, the one friend he has is, most likely, also gay. It's to bad people can be more accepting of what a kind of person somebody is. Instead they always seem to think about what type of person somebody screws.
ACK!

That doesn't make it right. My hiding it was my choice, as one's sexuality is one's own business. Had a comrade come out in high school, I would have been just as wrong to abhor him as these kids are. It is always wrong to judge people on the basis of anything other than the content of their hearts and their deeds.

I think you're wrong here and are underestimating the compassion of a straight person. Many of the high schools where gay students are out have gay/straight alliances, so there are certainly straight kids who wouldn't behave so poorly. Most of my friends are straight, after all.
Yes, it takes courage to step forward in the face of ridicule and stand by a peer who has come out. But considering how brave the boy was for coming out in such an environment, I think that says a lot about the straight kids who won't have anything to do with him and just how brave they are. What a shame to see a school full of cowards.

Didn't say it does make it right, I'm say that it's the unfortunate reality.

I'm not wrong in underestimating the compassion of a straight person, I am a straight person. But these are high school kids in an an male school. Having been in the Navy, on an all-male ship,I'm telling you that even the hint of homosexuality is enough for a person to be ostracized.

You are exactly right, and ashamed as I am to admit it, when I was in High School, I would have also been a coward.

i wasnt a coward thats what got me labeled as gay. i defended the few gay students that came out, and whenever someone was badmouthing gay people i would always defend them.
