  • Shrub is doing the same thing. The only difference is that Chirac has a carrot (EU membership), while Shrub doesn't. Making Shrub's policy considerably more idiotic.

    • Yeah but how does this absolve Dinodoc from being a covert supporter of the KKK?

      • It doesn't.

Actually Bush also had a carrot, initial financial assistance to some of them. But Chirac's carrot is bigger, no question about it.

Not that I've ever seriously thought about it, but I wouldn't think either of their carrots were very big.

              • It's amazing. The French Defense Minister actually backed up the outburst by Chirac while in Poland. France must be in some la la land where the US is to be countered with French power. This strikes me as bizarre.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

                • I have no idea what their motivation is on this, except in the very short run to stop this war. Amazing that they have so much interest in stopping it. They are putting the EU in jeopardy. Americans can not understand it at all.

DanS, the eastern European countries don't mind 'cause it's not something important to them.
US tricked them into signing a letter of support ( ) they did, now they're "hearing" it from France blah, blha, blah.

No big deal since it aint something important to them.

EU subsidises and admission though are.

                    Don't get excited.

French domination through the EU doesn't concern them? I think it does. As far as the subsidies go the French may not be able to pay the bill that they are creating for themselves.

                        • EU structural funds come from all EU countries.
Granted some are net beneficieries others net contributors.
                          Biggest contributor:Germany.

                          • Oh sorry, I meant German-French Domination. The thing that you are missing is that nations don't want to give up their sovereignty easily. They don't want to give it up to US and they don't want to give it up to France or Germany.

They may still do it if they think the benefits appear greater than the costs, but what France is doing is pointing out the costs.

                            edit: fixed error. sorry

Then why does thier seem to be so many ruffled feathers in France over other countries disagreeing with them.
