Don't leave out that the daughter witnessed the mother running over the husband.
On television, there was film of her driving around in circles. Ka-thunk. Ka-thunk.

"There should be penalties for adultery as well"

        Don't be f*cking ridiculous.

And there already are civil implications. AFAIK, the cause of the breakup of the marriage is important to the resulting division of assets and children.

Accidentally ran him over, accidentally reversed back over him, and accidentally drove back over him again...interesting use of the term 'accident'

There has been a catch phrase among Texas wives since shortly after the crime.

              It's called alimony.

PS: The jury might have let her off if she had only ran him over one time. It's when she came back around the next 5 times that she started to torpedo any real sympathy the jury might have felt for her. Having the stepdaughter in the car as well didn't help either.

You **** around on your wife and the penalty is divorce. You murder someone and you get to do the rope neck tie jig.

I just emailed that bozo, Shi.

                    Mr Farah,

Your column about Clara Harris and why she should be set free was unbelievable. This woman commited murder and should receive the death penalty for her brutal crime. And attempting to excuse her crime with tales of her husband's infidelity just goes to show how morally bankrupt this woman is. And I don't even know what that makes you for thinking she should be free.

Murder is a crime. Adultery is not. And even it adultery was illegal in some sort of evil, conservative theocracy; it certainly wouldn't have a punishment of death, which is what Harris' husband received.

If the justice system were to let her go it would send a clear signal that it's okay to murder people instead of dealing with their problems.

Big deal. Your husband cheated on you. Get over it. That doesn't excuse murder.

But I could understand how someone like you would fail to think about this. That's probably why you're writing for some little website and not a reputable news agency.

Why? It's a violation of contract, is it not?

Yeah, but that's not really punishment. There are other petty crimes which, in my opinion, are not nearly as bad as adultery. And you can get jail time for those.

Yes, and the remedy for violations of contract are civil, not criminal. Jail time is not appropriate for adultery.

i'm not talking about lawsuits, sava

Why should that type of thing go on without punishment as if it's completely ethical. Seems to me some big crimes find their cuase with infidelity in relationships.

Sure, it's easy enough to say: if he cheats on you, get a divorce. But most people who are cheated on don't feel as if that's redemption for the crime. No wonder it leads to backlash on a criminal scale.
