So how real is the Green's threat to pull out of the coalition government? Is this just typical political infighting during a crisis or something more serious?

Axis of Weasel, eurotwats... you guys must feel pretty mature now, huh?

It is seeming more and more probable in my eyes that the German Prime minister is just apposing the US for his own political gain, Germany being rather anti-american and all, probably makes Shcroder look like a hero.
Anybody know his ratings or anything like that?
US Media tends to catch trends by making irrelevant news really important,
often altering the viewpoint to pro-Bush.

Not so "Bild", which is mentioned in the quote in the first post. "Bild" is yellow press at its worst, and I wouldn't give a wet fart about what they write.
Bild? The same "news"paper which accused Janne Ahonen of masturbating and
watching porn just before performing his jumps, to boost testosterone ratings?

Well duh! Even I knew that much. It is his foreign policy that has saved him so far. I was merely curious how backing away from every promise he has made so far save one has effected his party's approval ratings.

Is thier any chance of the SPD ousting Schröder?

                Not the slightest.

And I'm sorry if I tell you things you already know. I don't know how this could happen. Perhaps because you asked it?

Well, if I would say yes, it would out me as "Bild" reader, wouldn't it? I honestly don't know if they wrote this bull, but it would be "Bild" style at its best and so I think you're right.

"It is his foreign policy that has saved him so far."

It maybe won him the election by taking 1-2 % extra of the vote.

It does not save his ass now. You are hopelessly overestimating the role this plays, especially as the opposition only differs from him in a couple of rhetoric items.

German diplomats are well aware that an American plan for a robust UN inspection system was floated last year and dropped, having drawn little international enthusiasm. A European reworking of that plan, drawn up without the consultation of the United States, would be seen only as an affront by Washington.

                      This just amazes me.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

                              oedo:
no one in Germany really doubts about Iraq producing WMD.
                              LaRusso:
schroeder and chirac do currently represent popular opinion in europe
Then why was Chirac quoted in this morning's Washington Post as saying he has seen no evidence that Iraq even has WMD?

I happen to agree with Oedo's assessment that this could be resolved without a war. But statements like Chirac's' which appear to fly in the face of the facts as we know them, only serve to increase US concerns that, if left up to the EU, nothing would ever get done.

The EU (well, rather part of the EU) peacenik stance is the reaction to the US warmonger stance. The first is certainly not genuine, the second might well be.
