    My point was not that Chavez runs Columbia as democratically as I'd like or expect, but that if he really wanted to he could be stifling the press (especially the state-run press), something that the real dictators of SA have never been afraid to do.

    He was elected democratically, and can be unelected democratically. Right now the protestors are petitioning for unconsititutional change after having failed in a coup d'état, so they aren't exactly shining models for democratic change either.
