"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. Of course, our Yankee ancestors initially used emancipation of slaves as a political tool in foreign relations, not out of goodwill towards blacks.
Neither side can claim to be virtuous, since the North used abolition as a higher-moral sounding justification to destroy the Confederacy. However, I'm thankful the Confederacy lost the Civil War.
The South used states' rights as a higher-moral sounding justification to preserve white supremacy and slavery.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
