The thing about the Germans is...

They'll wander around all up tight, like they haven't been laid in a year...even after they've just got laid!!!

That explains it all right there...WW1, WW2...

I prefer "Has it been explained to the Germans that the Iraqis are Semites?"

Drake : there are some things that don't make a certain group of people laugh. You won't joke with a Jew about AUschwitz won't you ? You won't joke with a New Yorker about the deaths of Sept. 11, won't you ? Please do not joke with Germans on the whole 1933-1945 period, and its corollaries (like "there hasn't been any evil man coming from Germany, hasn't it ? " or the above thing on Semites). You'll never find any German laugh about this, for it is probably the greatest shame a whole population has ever known.

BeBro : I didn't laugh to German humour because it is way too different from the Brit humor, which I love. Also, it is difficult to understand jokes in a language you're not that comfortable with

IMO, pretty tasteless to compare the suffering of New Yorkers after 9-11 to the suffering of Germans after the friggin Holocaust.

                Boo hoo, poor Germans.

                  You infidel

And to be serious, yes, jokes about the Holocaust itself would nobody like in Germany (except neo nazis idiots), and I think this hasn´t anything to do with humor or not - the issue is just too sad to joke about it.

But OTOH I´ve seen jokes about Hitler on tv, some really funny.

As a New Yorker who witnessed Sept. 11th first hand, I can say I would infinitely prefer living with that memory rather than having, say, survived Dresden or being constantly associated with the national shame of the Holocaust.

I think the blanket statements of prejudice and bigotry seen in this thread say a lot more about their posters than they do about Germans.

Do any of you even know any Germans? (And passing them in the street doesn't count.)

I made no comments about Dresden. Great tragedy. So was Guernica.
