US Military is currently moving in to help in the recovery and tracking.

Also, NASA and the Pentagon still won't say they lost the shuttle, but the tone of their voice states otherwise.

Some eye witness on CNN says he saw a plane near the shuttle before it exploded. He says that from where he was looking they were very close.

I'm beginning to really not like the Palestinians. They are the only degenerates who throw a party every time someone dies.

a plane 200,000 feet in the air keeping up with a shuttle going 12,500 miles per hour

of course, it all makes sense now.

And an eyewitness said that the US Navy shot down TWA 800.

Never listen to eyewitnesses because they are highly unrealiable.

Yes. IIRC, they were looking for 8 inch(?) floppy drives (but to move the information of to newer storage).

It could have been not a plane but a small asteroid, and there is the statistical possibility of a collision with the shuttle. Be foolish to rule that out offhand.

I salute them. Dying whilst exploring space is a noble way to go, IMO.

For the Palestinians, this must seem like an act of God.

There is no way in hell a plane could fly to 200k feet. I think this is another shooter on the grassy knoll type dead end.

                        Numerial facts so far:

They lost contact at 285,000 ft.
The speed was at Mach 25 - 26.

EDIT: some nasa reporter said that the altitude was 240,000 ft.

                            Truly a terrible day

For those debating the cause, Structural Failure and Explosions aren't necessarily incompatible. It's possible that tile loss near the wing could cause a problem in that area. Once stability is lost, it wouldn't take long before the entire craft began to burn - and when the inferno reached the fuel - boom.

From what I understand of that Civ game of yours, it's all about launching one's own spaceship before the others do. So this is no big news after all: my father just beat you all to the stars once more. - Philippe Baise

That's a terrible tragedy. I pray for their souls

What's a terrorist act? Too soon to say it. It must be very difficult to break all the security measures, but there are also too much coincidences about that. The first Israelian pilot, no accident like this in 42 years. This at least should makes us think.

Let's wait a little until we know a bit more, and don't discard anything.
