                Somebody said maybe NASA will get decent funding now, but they might just shut down manned space flight all together. There's no such thing as space exploration--we're not going to Mars or even the moon. There's just a bunch of busy work. These people died to bring us knowledge of how ants dig tunnels in space. Not really worth the cost if all we ever do is crap like that.

                      I was going to say more than something about the Pals celebrating but here's panag whom I respect so I won't.

                      In any case try living in a place where you dont know if your child will be alive tomorrow (this goes on for the Israelis too of course), not be able to do anything to prevent it or stop those who back it upand tell me if you wouldnt sing celebrate by Madona in such a symbolism. Some of you people really dont know whats going down in some part of the world. In any case this is the other view, not necessarily mine, but at least I put it forward.

                          Anyone know if the data gathered from the mission was sent to NASA before reentry? I'd hate to think that their last mission was entirely in vain.

                            On Jan. 16, shortly after Columbia lifted off, a piece of insulating foam on its external fuel tank came off and was believed to have hit the left wing of the shuttle. Leroy Cain, the lead flight director in Mission Control, assured reporters Friday that engineers had concluded that any damage to the wing was considered minor and posed no safety hazard.
