Thumbs up for Japan and the PRC for taking up the slack...
Don't forget us, we've been your enemies too recently
What I'm worrying about these days is the continuation of the ISS program. Launching Soyuz capsule sand all that kind of thing, should be interesting the way they improvise now. Hopefully this will mean a plus in funding instead of a cut.
We were just driving to do some ice blading (is this what you call it) when we hard on the radio that contact was lost, made up some theories. Cot it confirmed on radio when we were driving back home.
PS: I agree with paiktis (eugh! ) on the matter of the whole racial debate. Anyone whose first impression would include any interhuman conflict in this matter (including Eli and so many Americans) must be a sick fuck.
Space flight is dangerous.
This whole thread makes me want to vomit.
Shouldn't this waffling **** take place in a chat room.
If this accident was so traumatic for some of you,
and I'm speaking to the people whose names pop
up continually in this thread since the start, what are
you doing whingeing about it here?
Don't you people have any real human relationships?

Thanks for the criticism, lunger75. I'm sure you meant it to be constructive.

Com'on, how much they are spending on this Missile Shield anyway?
NASA has an unusual budget...it's given $X and is permitted to allocate it any way NASA wishes.
Currently, the International Space Station has gone way over what NASA planned, so it's become a black hole of funding, sucking in all the money which, for example, would have gone into designing and building a replacement shuttle.
The Missile Shield is not part of NASA, so no matter how much of a waste of money it is, it really doesn't figure in.

it could have gone into a replacement shuttle, but these shuttles are designed to last for 100 flights, while columbia hasn't even reached a quarter of the reckonned lift-offs.
well, now i see two scenarios:
1) either the whole SS project get cut down to the minimum (after all, they won't be flighing for the next 1-2 years)
2) or there will be a boost in funding to research for a ngSS (next generation space shuttle).
1st would help the current administration to reduce deficit spending
2nd would give dubya a sympathy boost, like the 9/11 incident and the "successful" afghanistan war
i don't think it will stay exactly the same, otherwise people would say that the us-regime isn't doing anything (--> less popularity AND less money saved)

i'm not so sure about this anyway. this missile shield would protect only countries which 100% support the US and other participants, which would make the governements not much more that symbolic leaders. it would also mean, that the US could nuke any country without worrying about a revenge strike.
i don't think the international community will let the shield get to an end.

"us government asks the russians wheter or not the buran can be used"
the "buran" > russian spaceshuttle that flew ones for 3.5 hours in space unmaned , .....
it would make sense , they have that shuttle and a couple rockets standing in the shelf since 1993 , ....
and it would be great to continue with the ISS , if there is anything those astronauts wanted at all then it is that we continue exploring space , ....
