The latest words from Mandela really make Bush bashers sound like a bunch of loonies. Some of them are I think.

Hmm... I wonder... when the US media picks the Mandela as a "bad guy"?

Mandela isn't a bad guy. He's more like the crazy uncle we shove in the basement.

When I read Nelson Mandela's comments Thursday, I had to read it twice, to make sure it was properly quoted. Unfortunately, it was, and my respect for Mandela has dropped markedly.

I think there are better choices than Belefonte for the third position...
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Ol Harry still has his blood feud going with Powell, I take it?

I included Belafonte because the remarks he made against Powell a while back, I think, ultimately reflected his disgust with Bush Administration policies. The guy he's really upset with is President Bush IMO.

As someone who has respected Nelson Mandela's efforts to correct his country's racial conflicts, I am profoundly disappointed to see such ignorance of the cause of conflict between the the US and Iraq on his part.

It's not about oil, it is not about disrespecting Koffe Anan because he is African, it is not about religion.

It's about a sadistic tyrant supressing a people that we *can* get at. Today Saddam, tomorrow, maybe the next available butcher-tyrant.

My view is that the UN ought to make it a point of actively engaging and removing tyrants around the world, by any means possible. That's what I think the purpose of the UN is, and that is what they *ought* to be doing as a matter of course.

The big problem I have with that idea is: who decides what a tyrant is?

And, of course, who decides who replaces them?
