I used to think of Mendela as being an intelligent man. He has obviously gone senile.

Not that I particularly enjoy shooting down hero myths (ok, maybe I do ), but why is Mandela so intelligent? I mean, he was a great moralist and politician, but that doesn't necessary prove he was (or is) intelligent. This is referenced by his words today.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
    - John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

I support Mandela and the Pope : P

"They do not care. Is it because the secretary-general of the United Nations is now a black man?" said Mandela, referring to Kofi Annan, who is from Ghana.

Hasn't the secretary-general always been from Africa?

Waldheim is a black man, though...
“Now we declare… that the law-making power or the first and real effective source of law is the people or the body of citizens or the prevailing part of the people according to its election or its will expressed in general convention by vote, commanding or deciding that something be done or omitted in regard to human civil acts under penalty or temporal punishment….” (Marsilius of Padua, „Defensor Pacis“, AD 1324)

                      There hasn't been on.

It has just been Africa's time. Boutros-Boutros Ghalli was the first African sec-gen, and then the US refused to back him for reelection, so Kofi Annan stepped in.

After Kofi, I assume an Asian will get the post (I forget how the rotation is supposed to work).

The Secretary-Generalship seems to make extra long stops in Europe, and few in Asia, or the Americas. Australia is of course, screwed out of it.
                                John Brown did nothing wrong.
