why are you writing in all caps? and why, exactly, do you think this is 'going to be another Vietnam', even tho there is almost not similarity between these two conflicts? I would value any arguement you wish to put forward (so that I can hack it to pieces ).
I am going to predict that sometime before the US launches a full air attack against Iraq (which will not happen until US troops are in their jumping off sites) that someone inside the Iraqi government will sell Saddam out and he will be either killed or captured by joint US/UK special opps troops.
10,000 Iraqi Republican Guards, and the whole place folds up like a AAA map!

A lot of people never felt sorry last time. The so-called out pouring of sympathy never really materialized and the overwhelming msg among editorials and letters to the editor in the foreign press was "you had it coming, you arrogant bastards."
This is just plain wrong. Most people I know felt sorry for the victims at the WTC and their families. Most op-eds were the same.
Most of the op-eds I read were along the lines of "why are you surprised?" and "don't you understand why they hate you?" this is different from saying that it was justified. From what I've seen most Americans just don't understand why their country is so unpopular (breaking treaties, riding roughshod over others, etc.). GWB has squandered this goodwill with his petulant antics. It makes me sad.
Reading your posts leads me to think you don't get it either. Well you better start soon - I'm afraid the greatest army in the world isn't going to do much good against terrorists.
Oh and the Bali incident was aimed at US citizens, the bomber was just too dumb and got Australians instead.

All it will change is the timing of when Saddam Hussein will use what he's got on America now, or five years from now. Oh, and probably our allies as well.
The notion of Iraq being a threat to the US or a supplier of terrorists is risible. Hussein, as a secular Arab leader, is detested by Al Quaedi for a start.
But I guess you just think a towel head is a towel head, right?

What is this opinion based on?
A year long study of foreign elite opinion conducted by Vladimir Shlapentokh Joshua Woods. Here's a few of the highlights:
When we ranked the images used among elites abroad for the USA, "rich culture or strong educational institutions" ranked 37th; "technologically advanced" was 14th. Even "brave, courageous or bold" ranked 31st. These and many other positive U.S. images were eclipsed by "tries to impose its will on other countries" (second place), "cares only for its narrow interest" (fifth), "warlike" (sixth), "hypocritical" (eighth), "arrogant" (10th) and "terrorist" (13th).
The study analyzed more than 4,000 articles from the 10 largest newspapers in China, Colombia, Egypt, Germany, India and Russia. You can find some more info here.

According to OBL, the bombing was in retaliation for the Aussies' "anti-muslim" actions in East Timor and Afghanistan.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

That's a pathetic stretch, even by your standards.
“Now we declare… that the law-making power or the first and real effective source of law is the people or the body of citizens or the prevailing part of the people according to its election or its will expressed in general convention by vote, commanding or deciding that something be done or omitted in regard to human civil acts under penalty or temporal punishment….” (Marsilius of Padua, „Defensor Pacis“, AD 1324)

I assume he is just misunderstanding - there was a genuine puzzlement in the european press at least at many americans' puzzlement why they are hated. Looking for the reasons of that hatred does not equal endorsing it, although the rabid right always wants to portray it this way.

Actually it does if you read the rest of the article.
