Similarly, there is no benefit in knowing any subject at all. Why go to school? Lounge around and become a beggar.

what level education are we talking about? H.S or college? or both I assume?

Im guessing the girl didnt plead to skip basic High school algebra stuff.. college level math like calculus is understandable, but they do have pre-calc courses for business major in my school, and they are easy enough so that if one tries they can do fairly well.

The thing is, even though math is of vital importance to the functioning of modern society, most people don't need it. Math should have the same place as foreign languages in US schools. Have everyone take a couple years and they can take another two if they want to go into one of the few fields that advanced knowledge of math is required.

Let me guess. You are thinking of filing suit using this case as precedent.

That said, in order to function in the world, you do need a working knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Beyond that can be useful, but is not necessary, imo.
In order to function in the world, you don't need to know much history, geography, literature, foreign languages, etc., etc. Does that mean students shouldn't learn these topics?

Not only is math incredibly useful (certainly at pre-college levels) in a wide variety of areas, practically and commercially, it establishes the foundations of one's analytical skills, which is always useful.

That doesn't mean he needs math, just the people who built it.
I think Eden's point is that without adequate mathematical knowledge among the general public, he wouldn't be using a computer.

I hated math and was no good at it..but the army decided to put me in mortars where the ability to calculate trajectory was needed in order to avoid killing your own ppl or innocent civilians. Man that kept me up nights going over it and over it. They should have made me a regular soldier or a sniper. I am a great shot.

They certainly don't ask. If they did I'd have told them I could shoot the balls off a parakeet at 200 yds, but even when I added three times both results aren't the same when adding 1+1.

                            That's just bullcrap.

Romanian scholls also grade from 1 to 10.
My sister is also very much letters-oriented, and she always scored 9 to 10 in all letters-related subjects, while scoring 7 to 9 in all maths-related subjects, and she never complained about it. She even spent a year in an Italian university, then said all courses there were extremely simple compared to what she to go through in during her studies at a Romanian university.
I worked for some time in Italy and all my Italian co-workers were amazed at the fact that I was able to obtain an engineering diploma at 24.

I think it's the school system. It's so bad it encourages students to be lazy and find ways to cheat it.
