JohnT: ITA with you on that one. That observation of yours wasn't out of place at all.

Honestly, I think the movie industry is getting collectively stupider by the hour.

BTW: Who you think has the edge for the statuettes in March? I bet you're hoping I'll say LOTR again, but I'm thinking Chicago (though About Schmidt is far superior). I couldn't STAND The Hours...

Please tell me The Core is some kind of disaster-movie spoof....

it'd still be very lame, but at least it wouldn't be the most absurd premise for a movie ever.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

JohnT: So do I, so do I, but it probably won't. Everywhere I go, it's "They're saving it for Return of the King..." and then, of course, it'll probably have the luck of running into a surefire can't-miss lock next year...

No spoof. The trailer was straight-up.

If it's lame enough, it could become a cult classic

It's things like this that really make me wonder about the long term future of your country.

(Not just dissing either. I lived in America for 10 years and saw a lot of stuff first hand that worried me deeply. The failure of The Critic cartoon for example)
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
                      -Richard Dawkins

The Critic was brilliant. Its failure stands as a lasting indictment of American popular taste.

Oh come on, none of these can hold a candle to the most brainless premise ever inflicted upon the American Psyche.......Pretty Woman.

I hate to say it, but the women I see walking the Cass Corrider after dark look NOTHING like Julia Roberts.

"Pretty Woman" was based on Dumas' Camille and La traviata by Verdi. Don't blame the "stupid" premise on American movies. I, however, think the premise itself is a good one. Perhaps it was the execution that was the problem.
