It's a great idea to hire someone with experience in the Japanese market if you're trying to crack the Japanese market. Plus I imagine there aren't a lot of executives with consule experience just sitting around.

Moore got fired for the failure of the Sega Sports line, which was very much Sega of America's fault.

And how is he responsible for that?

Sega spent twice as much as EA did on advertising.

The problem is, people are in a habit of buying EA Sports games. It's that simple. They buy NHL 2002, then NHL 2003, then NHL 2004...

Sega Sport's games are better, they just can't overtake EA instantly like SoJ wanted (they always were stupid). And since Moore is responsible for the Sega Sports line, as you just implied, I'm even more excited about it -- NHL 2K3 is the best hockey game. Ever.

BTW, didn't he quit? Not fired?

I don't think anyone knows for sure yet, but it seems like he was forced out after the sales data for Sega Sports came in...

Unless Moore is bringing Visual Concepts along with him, I don't think you'll see an NHL2K3 caliber game on the Xbox anytime soon. Moore didn't make the games; he just unsuccessfully marketed them...

            He resigned.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't fired, unless I'm grossly underestimating just how stupid Sega is...

Wouldn't they fire the Sega Sports head before the COO/Pres?

            Treyarch developed NHL2K3.

And NHL2K3 *IS* on Xbox. It even supports Xbox Live for online play.

Duh. What the hell was I thinking?

It looks pretty fishy. I think it was a forced resignation.

He probably realized he'd take a pay cut this year because they didn't do as well as he expected.

MS waved a wad of cash infront of him like they did for Ken Lobb, and off he goes...

I mean, he resigned on friday and was hired by MS on Monday. I'm pretty sure he wasn't fired, MS just offered him a better job so he quit and joined MS the next business day.

                  From the IGN boards

Ken Lobb... connected to Rare in a huge way.

                  He leaves Nintendo, joins Microsoft.

                  Microsoft buys Rare.

                  Peter Moore... connected to Sega.

                  He leaves Sega, joins Microsoft.

                  Microsoft...

                  TO BE CONTINUED!

Asher- You will be delighted to hear that there are now two games available for the XBOX that interest me. In addition to Halo, that Mech Assault game looks pretty good. The problem with XBOX for me is that it is still far too pandering to mainstream gamers. Too many boring sports, racing and FPS games. I still find Gamecube and PS2 to be the only realistic choices for hardcore gamers.
By the way, one thing you fail to mention is that XBOX is still dead last in terms of global hardware sales.

Actually monk, in terms of global sales, the GCN sold 8.00 million (according to Nintendo) and Xbox at 8.05M

Of course this doesn't really matter. Globally, per week the Xbox is selling quite a bit more...

Where do you get the 8.05 figure Asher?
And your European sales figures seem suspicious as well. The last sales figures from Europe that I saw showed the Gamecube still having a slight edge, 1.5 million to 1.4.

Actually Gamecube should be at about 8.18 in any event.

PCWorld helps you navigate the PC ecosystem to find the products you want and the advice you need to get the job done.

---GameCube sells 6.68 Million from September 2001 to September 2002

---GameCube: 1.5 Million during Holiday Season (November + December)

                            6.68 + 1.5 = 8.18 Million, and this doesn't even include October sales figures.

Those figures were Nintendo being tricky bastards.

Nintendo issued a press release which triggered a Reuter story, citing they were in 2nd in Europe: 1.5M to 1.4M.

The problem is, their 1.5M is their "sold to retail" number. That's the total amount they sold to retailers in Europe.

The 1.4M they got was from a conservative estimate of the Xbox CONSUMER base from a company called ScreenDigest.

Since then, MS has announced its "sold to retail" numbers are 1.8M versus Nintendo's 1.5M.

A couple days later, two independent firms: Chart-Track & GfK confirmed that the Xbox did surpass the Gamecube in European sales in December...
