That's not how it works...

The 6.68M Gamecubes were global sales to date as of September.

Why did you add on the 1.5M (total European sales?)? I don't get that at all...

The GamePro article you linked to shows Nintendo saying they probably wouldn't crack 8M, btw.

GameCube buyers get a free game
IGN confirmed with Nintendo on Friday that, come February 9th, gamers looking to purchase a GameCube console for $149.99 will receive one title for free. The offer allows people to choose from four very popular GC games: Resident Evil 0, Star Fox Adventures, Metroid Prime, and Mario Party 4. While GameCube sales were good over the holidays, they didn't even come close to nearest competitor Microsoft's; Nintendo hopes that the inclusion of a free game will help boost hardware sales through May, when the bundle deal runs out. Perhaps Nintendo has other pricing plans for the Electronics Entertainment Expo...

A Rare game centered around a Nintendo license. Rare is going to have a hard time adjusting to life without Nintendo's stable of characters.

Besides, if you like Star Fox Adventures, then the new Zelda is the game you should check out, not Perfect Dark Zero...

Nah, they kept a lot of the great franchises and have proven that they can create new ones just as easily as when Nintendo forces them to work with one of theirs...

Why not Kameo?

Zelda is only like SFA in that they're both adventure games...

SFA and Kameo are more similar than SFA and Zelda.

Those games are the most boring things on earth, it's why I never touched SFA, and I hope they don't sink to that level again to appease someone. Thankfully Nintendo's not pushing them around saying "we INSIST you change your game to suit Starfox...".

Combat mechanics? Button configuration? Practically every aspect of gameplay? Rare admitted to ripping off the Zelda control scheme. A good choice on their part, as it's probably the best adventure gameplay mechanism in existence...

Thankfully Nintendo's not pushing them around saying "we INSIST you change your game to suit Starfox...".

The gameplay would've been the same without the Starfox license. It just would've been called "Dinosaur Planet" and would've sold worse...

Having watched my roommate play through and beat SFA- and then return it to the store- I can assure you all that SFA is not like Zelda. It's more like a bad Zelda game. It's not a collect-a-thon (which is fun, heretic!), it's a "do 10 zillion fetch quests for really contrived reasons-a-thon." Biggest strike against it is the combat, which is incomprehensibly boring and the exact same combo works against practically every enemy (and the enemies don't gang up on you, just come at you one at a time to allow you to use your combo attack of killing everything).

Not a bad exploration game for kids, but kids can enjoy good exploration games too, like real Zelda titles.

So what it it that you folks like about consule games that you don't get with PC games? It seems a little redundant to buy a consule when you already have a PC.

I find it just more relaxing.

Laying on the couch infront of the bigscreen with a controller is more relaxing to sitting at a desk infront of a computer for me.

I play both (strategy mostly on the PC), but they suit different purposes.

Another huge plus for the console is multiplayer: it's hard to get 3 of your friends to play you a game of NHL 2K3 or something on the PC, it's easy on a game console. And no PC online gaming experience is as cool as Xbox Live yet.

PC tends to have good games but of differing genres.

I have yet to play a satisfying platformer or beat 'em up on a PC. However, strat games and flight sims are unparallelled on a PC, and in my opinion RPGs for the PC just narrowly edge out those for the consoles (user customisability).

I'm something of a brand-loyal gamer and I have always owned a Nintendo. The only reason I haven't bought a GameCube yet is lack of funds, but I will get one to enjoy Metroid Prime. What little I've played on the other consoles shows me that their games are good too, but I'm not going to be able to afford more than one in the near future.
