I don't smoke, so why should I have to put up with them.

The same applies to tampon ad's, but at least they usually look good.
There is now some evidence that the ads are working, even among young people.

There is an ad for a type of toilet paper that annoys me. The advertizer claims that it is moist and that it leaves your butt feeling cleaner. The commercial features various people wiggling their butts around. Having an ad that features kids in skimpy bathing suits wiggling their little butts at the audience smacks of sexualizing children to me.

The toilet paper ad with the stupid bears and ducks who assume ecstatic expressions while pooping bothers me too.

Strangelove, I've seen that add and found it a tad disturbing as well.

Smoking is revolting. Those ads are revolting. Seems strange to me that they don't work around where I am.

Former classmates of the school I went to were smoking the first time I saw them again the year after school had ended. Most of the people at the TAFE I went to would always go outside and light up during the breaks. Even at shopping centres, where there's NO SMOKING signs everywhere, its impossible to escape the second hand smoke.

I find it a tad selfish of these smokers to be lighting up where non-smokers are going to have to put up with their second-hand smoke.

But unlike some, many people are not "scared" or "intimidated" into doing something and to them I doubt these ads work.

I had to light one up just to relax.

Also if it is so in your face, you don't care. You think" hell if it's so ****ed up, I might as well have another one".

It would be interesting to see some studies on the impact of these sort of ads.
They certaintly did not work for me, apart from ruining my apetite for like 10 minutes.

No wonder that "Operation Ore", the sting that netted Peter Townshend, also nabbed 1300 other people. They were subverted by the toilet paper industry. First they were shown the butts of really hot chicks, then the butts of perpubertal kids, then back to the hot chicks, then back to the kids and so on and so on over and over again. Evicerntly there must be some data showing that pedophiles use a lot of toilet paper.

Studies in the US show that they're beginning to work, even on teens. Initial studies tended o show a negative effect, but apparently repitiion ad infinitum breaks down the barriers.
Next we're going to take on resistance to Turkey joining the EU. Your side is doomed!

If fear doesn't work, maybe disgust will...

I wish i had a pick of my dad to show you, with the target that the doctors painted on his torso to know where to aim during the radiotherapy.

                Didn't work, by the way.
                What?

It wouldn't work either I'm afraid.

There are some people like me who
                  _can't be intimidated into quiting
                  _can't be disgusted
                  but
know full well the ills smoking can produce.

I think there is no will to quit because we feel no ill effects (for the moment of course) and because it is so damn pleasurable to smoke.

So I think one other approach should be to show us methods of how to quit it.

We know it's ill producing habit, we want to quit (sort of)
so better to tell educated methods as to how.

And leave all that "scary" crap for small children.

i.e. instead of showing somebody puring a glass of tar on some lungs,

show proven methods to distract oneself when wanting to smoke.

                    Such as begleri.
