It's nice how you completely avoided my point about Sony's move on Microsoft's turf being nothing but a plan right now, while Microsoft's move on Sony's turf is already going full speed ahead. Who's attacking who here, Asher? Seems to me that Sony is just responding to Microsoft's attack on its business...

Maybe you should do some research into what Sony is up to, I don't think you have a damn clue what's going on.

Yes, of course. If I don't agree with you and your bosses in Redmond's views on the business world, I must not know what I'm talking about...

It's NOT just a plan, Drake.

Sony tried implementing it with the PS2, they just SUCKED at it.

The PS3 has a better architecture for it, and it'll actually ship with the networking and HD as originally planned, and it's far more than a plan -- it's already been patented!

The whole reason MS got into the console industry is because of Sony's open declaration of "war" on them. Read the book "Inside the Xbox" if you want to keep arguing this, otherwise cut your losses...

It's just that you don't know what you're talking about. Really.

It's easy to say MS just saw the market and wanted it, when it's entirely NOT THE CASE.

It took over a year for Bill Gates to authorize Xbox, he didn't want to deal with video games. It's a very risky market. The whole reason he okayed it was because of the talks MS was in with Sony in the late 90s about digital convergance, then Sony suddenly decided it would do it without MS and called the PS2 the Entertainment Computer, and the rest is history...

Fact: Linux is available for the PS2 (complete with a harddrive, keyboard, mouse, compiler, etc)
Fact: The PS2 is in tens of millions of homes and is considered far more hip than the PC.
Fact: The younger generation is the future for MS' successes.
Fact: New TV resolutions rival that of the computer, and in fact HDTVs are essentially computer monitors.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out where this is going, does it, Drake?

Hey Navy Brawler I saw some article in a recent IT trade journal this week about IBM is targeting Microsoft. I didn't read the article, but it was on the front page. Did you see any articles in any of your business journals?

IBM is considered a "threat" because they're heavily and investing and promoting in Linux.

It's entirely based around server/workstations and not consumer OSes, though.

Yeah, and if it wasn't for IBM, Linux wouldn't be where it was today.

Nah. But I've heard stuff for a long time about Microsoft worrying about IBM. And they both are interested in doing service work. (Heard this from a buddy at a consulting company that starts with an A.)

It's easy to say it, but it's totally wrong.

It's rhetoric from people who haven't a clue what they're talking about.

If MS wanted the market, the Xboy would have been released with the Xbox like J Allard wanted.

                          That's very interesting.

Certainly IBM is light years ahead of Microsoft in the services market already.

I was under the impression that MS had abandoned the concept of tech services...

                              Asher,

What is your take on the rumors of MS releasing software from Linux.

Started by some idealistic nerd over at Slashdot?

You're saying that MS has no interest in the highly lucrative gaming industry? That they're investing billions of dollars in the Xbox just to head off a potential (and not too convincing) threat from Sony? Are you that naive? It's pretty obvious that MS is in the gaming industry for the money. Stopping Sony's digital hub plan in its infancy is just an added benefit.
