I agree, to say that this story of medical drugs in our drinking water sounds erroneous would be a gross understatement.

Sorry, but I can't let you get away with this one. Jeez, what some people believe because it suits their predilections!
Actually I saw this first in legitimate news sources.

        From abcnews.com

Then there's a growing concern about pharmaceuticals finding their way from medicine cabinets, sewage and production industries into the nation's water supply . Research in the U.S., Canada and Europe is showing that low concentrations of a wide range of prescription drugs — everything from antibiotics to birth-control pill hormones to blood pressure medications — are turning up in ground, surface, and drinking water. No one is clear on what the cumulative effect of this onslaught will turn out to be.
        Some other links I googled:

That's the problem. They're so easily metabolised, that when they pass out of the body and enter back into the water supply, purification systems have great difficulty removing them.

I thought Ritalin was only for adults? Why not give speed to little children while we're at it? .

I've never heard of Ritalin being given to adults before.

Now that I think of it, Ritalin was only for kids? Hah, I can't remember .

Ritalin is widely used to treat attention deficit disorder in adults as well as children.

They give it kids mainly cause it stir-fries their neural nets and makes them passive and malleable.

I 've seen a few adults take it, but it's rare.

Dexedrine and a varient of it, adderall, are common alternatives to ritalin.

Bith ADD-HA and Clinical depression have neuro chemical deficiacies involved. They usually have, especially depression, non organic based emotional/psychological components. The chemical deficiency are actualy similar between the two conditions, and anti despresive drugs are common alternatives for ritalin is it does not work well. There are dozens of neuro transmiter chemicals, each one with dozens of varieties. Each case of ADD, ADD-HA, clinical depression, and other neuro-transmitter disorders will vary from other in the same diagnosis to some extent. And it often trial and error to find which of the grug remidies is most effective. In many case of ADD-HA and the majority of case of clinical depression, pychiatric treatment or psychological cousenling is also need for treatment. but agin it is highly variable from patient to patient. There is no one size fits all in these areas.
I am ADD-HA all my life, but fortunately with a powerful intelect (measure at 154 during testing to isolate problems areas) and will, despite multiple areas (a half a page or specific ones) of learing disabilities and nerual defect, and required little treatment as a child beyond exercises in written expresion (but I never could spell well). I work so fast that I never ran into my attetion limit, doing a hours work in 20 minutes, and them taking a break. When i got older an slower, in my late 30s started running into it and required some drug treament to expanded it beyond 20 minutes. Ritalins was not effective for me, nor the second choice, Zoloft anti-depressive. The third try dexidrine worked like a charm, multiplying it from 20 minutes to 3 hours, and after less than a year of treatment, something in my brain was permenantly impoved either by the treament or the experience of longer concentration from it, and I have not required it since then.

When I was a lad we had a saying; "Spare the rod, spoil the child", and we didn't need drugs to control kids.

Back then "choice" meant "leather or wood".

                          Ah yes, good ol' abuse.

Well, ADD-H began to proliferate right about the time that corporal punishment went out of style AND schools began supplying lazy children with buses. I walked a mile and a half over hilly terrain to get to school. By the time I got to school I wanted to sit down for awhile.

My son is ADHD. Been that since the age of three. Dealt with 5 years of it (counceling, diet, books, classes, etc.) before turning to medication due the fact I was running out of schools for him to be expelled from. Now he is an A to B student who can actually form some very cogent arguements and I love to debate. Thank Adderall for that. The reason they are not diagnosed in Third World contries is they are locked in jail from an early age due to a general predisposition to violence.
