Remember what happened with the last tax cut. Republicans wanted to cut taxes for the rich. The Democrats wanted to cut taxes for the middle class

67 for those born after 1960, rather.
66 for the baby boomers. 65 for the pre-baby boomers.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

We live a lot longer now than we did when SS was created. Still, it'd be kinda nice not to have to work the last thirty years of my life.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

**turns beet red** Well, my heart was in the right place, if nothing else. A reduction in the *federal income tax (FIT)* taken out of each check would be nice. But leave SS and Medicare alone. Ah, yes, I was using the right argument but the wrong wording.
Y'know, they took more than $200 out of my last check for those taxes ... that's more than $400 a month I could put up into a savings account or something. More than $4800 a year ... or even just half that amount ($2400) if some FICA/FIT remains. Put in an interest-bearing account and things can gradually grow from there.

They deduct "x" amount of dollars for each tax; what I'd like to see is a reduction in the FIT, not necessarily the SS or Medicare. Or doesn't the government break down its payroll tax collections? Is that breakdown just for our benefit and the taxes are just globbed together in the bureaurcracy?

Colour me confused. The name of the thread, which you started, is called " So Why Don't US Leaders Cut PAYROLL Taxes?!" Then you make the above statement.
SS and Medicare (as I'm sure somebody pointed out to you already) are the payroll taxes you want cut... or not. Bush is the one advocating the cuts in income taxes that you also want... or not.

simple answer to thread title: most of the money comes from payroll taxes. any other tax they lower doesn't hit their wallet as hard. duh."I've lived too long with pain. I won't know who I am without it. We have to leave this place, I am almost happy here."

In short, SS wasn't designed to pay out ANY money, period. It was a scam, pure and simple.

To pay $30,000 in income taxes, your adjusted annual income would be $118,950--and that does not include untaxed capital gains, untaxed inheritance, and various tax-avoidance measures, such as the income you have building up in your retirement plans.
I don't believe the average American even makes $30,000 per year.
