Well obviously I would need someone who is a decent match for my brains so they would have to be quite bright...I don't suffer fools gladly.

And Iain, did you get the phonecall earlier? I am in Manchester, but we never popped to Rockworld in the end but just had a bite to eat instead

Um, someone did mutter something about a message on the phone... I've got no money anyway so it's a bit irrelevent anyway.

this is going to sound egotistical. But I haven't found a woman who is smarter than me on most subjects. But the subjects I find important aren't important to women. Women are definately smarter than me on language skills. And they are imortant, but there are many other fields that are important too.

I know they are out there. And I would find them if I went to universities. But I can't afford to go to a university. So I may never meet one.

Mark... I trust she doesn't like you for your modesty...
Just the truth. I know lots of people around my age who are way smarter then me. Strangely, they're all guys. It's been that way since high school.

And what does that have to do with modesty? Everyone has their own qualities. I know I'm smarter than most, and I also know I'm less athletic, strong, goodlooking, rich, talented, etc than others. I'm the first to admit that. And around people I am modest, I don't show off my qualities but tend to downplay them. That doesn't mean I deny them, I know what I'm good at and what I'm not good at. Why would that be wrong?

            my iq is 129

i prefer men smarter than me, "intelligence and kindness"
but its rare that i run across that combination
so i settle for a fine pair of ummm..........eyes
            look where that got me...

but you are also forgetting common sence.
i think a person can be high in common sence and maybe have a lower iq. so some may appear "smarter"
on first look but may really not be "smart"
and the reverse also appies .

              Apparently my IQ is 160.

No further evidence should be necessary to prove how meaningless a statistic it is.

I have a high IQ and absolutly no common sense And Poet is right, it is pretty meaningless. It just measures how you think, not actually how well you think. If someone is logical and has good eyesight, they should do well at any IQ test I've found, almost regardless of how intelligent they are.

British IQ is on a different scale than the US one too. Both have 100 as the average, yet the US one everyone is nearer to 100, so 160 in Britian is about 145ish in the US. Mine (in Britian) is 192, and there is no way I'm that clever if it was the same scale.

I agree with Marcus aswell, why should people downplay their achievements. There's a fine line between truthfulness and immodesty, but IMHO he hasn't crossed it.

This is one of the funniest threads I've seen in a while. Those who are smart tend not to advertize it.
You guys are making fool of yourselves, especially the ones who are judging IQ's of those fellows
                        who they 'know' barely superficially.

Depends on whether or not they want to get laid. If this thread is any indication, advertising your intelligence is a great way to get some action.

Depends on if they are hermits or not.

In this day and age it is quite hard to get ahead without advertising yourself. If you are smart, why not make use of your intelligence? I am afraid modesty doesn't work well with a cut-throat capitalistic society.
