    Thanks for the welcomes, guys.

UberKruX, you're welcome for the breaking news -- now you just have to learn to wake up earlier.

And Sprayber, nice to see you're as stiffed-neck as usual.

I'm the same easy going guy as usual. I just say it the way I see it. You should be happy that the backward people of Mississippi had tornados last night. Maybe some enlightened northern folk can help them.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

Can someone tell him not to take everything seriously?

Oh and as to the topic of the thread. It's good that Lott is gone. He messed up badly and tried to cover it up by pandering. Not what we need.

I totally agree. If this whole thing hadn't come up now, it probably would've at some point. Better sooner than later.

                  Thank God for Trent Lott!

All the post election self-congratulation from republicans melted away in scandal and internal infighting His leaving the senate majority spot will not improve the Republican's image among Blacks, since the whole thing took so long. Don't expect Bush to get more than 20% of the Black vote come 2004, and even that might be high.

As for you Jimmy: of course the race issue has not gone: the best example of how it continues to poison the south: Trent Lott and his message.

And spraybear: Mississippi is backward: bottom of the bottom in all measures of wealth and socio-economic advancement in the US (but it has Arkansas to contend with). Its a fact, and we ivory tower northeners already send far too much of our wealth down south thanks to the federal government.

If that's how you feel, then you must also be opposed to the US govt sending money to other backwards places like Africa. Racist! Racist!

I think Bush might be willing to "do a Lewinsky" on one of his White House interns for 20% of the 2004 black vote. He only got 9% in 2000.

Seeing as he only got 9% in 2000, I don't think there was much fear that he'd get 20%

And, while it's good he stepped down, and Bill Frist will be Majority Leader (a MUCH more likeable person), I still think the whole contraversy was BS, and I don't think the comments were racist at all. But, believe what you want.

Nah, Africans never partook in treason agaisnt the US, so they are far more deserving of aid than Mississippi

And spraybear: better a nosebleed than the bends, which I would invariably get if I ever traveled to Mississippi, for nothing would keep me from trying to flee the depths fo despair that rule there.

I don't have a problem with what he said at Strom's party, but I do have a problem with him saying he supports AA afterwards.

Yeah, that was a bad copout, just to save his hide. Once the hubbub started, we knew he was going to lose majority leadership... and we knew he'd win re-election anyway. He's senior in the Senate, he brings the pork home .
