Why the US is violent place to live in?

I think not.

It is an established fact, and even Americans agree, that the American social security system is worse than that in most European nations. The UN has also concluded that the US has relatively more people below the universal powerty line than most European nations.

The question is...in what way, if at all, does this contribute to more violence.

Saw the posts afterwards. I think the only reason you notice the white young male shooting up a school thing, is because it happens in the suburbs and is therefore more "important" to the "general" American public.

Serial killers are far and few between. You get 3-4 a year max, but the inherent horror factor means there's more publicity for them than for some gangbangers shooting up some other gangbangers in some Midwest ****hole.

lightblue, Yep.. I also suspected most of the killings would be criminal vs. criminal, at least in here it is exclusively so. So.. why do ordinary people need them, if that's the case? Why sub urban white rich guy need 9 rifles and uzi to protect the house?

you could say the same thing about the "gangbanger shootings"...the media is very manipulative..they USE what SELLS.

And the school shootings...I agree..it was a tragedy on suburbia..OOoh my GOD..these children..these WHITE children..what a tragedy..

but if it happens to a handful of minorities..its like "oh well" :\

They don't, but the fact that they have these weapons do not make it more likely that they will use it. I think it strokes the average american's ego that they can own a piece of apparatus that can kill or maim dozens of people. I'd wager that less than 1% of the guns owned by suburban middle class people ever gets fired in anger.

It does make it more likely that shooting sprees (of the going "postal" kind) happen, seeing as here people will go look for a fight in a pub or something to get it out of their system, instead of using their semiautomatic.

Personely I think it is the hormon levels that makes one violent.

True, it is the same here. When I lived in Longsight, Manchester (which is prolly about as rough an area as you are going to get in the UK), there were 3 fatal shootings (drug related) within 200yds of my house in the year i stayed there. You'd think that this'd be big news in Manchester at the very least, but it didn't warrant a mention on the local news, and was only on page 5 or so of the local paper.

Now if some little white girl goes missing, the whole country goes in panic mode even it just turns out she ran off somewhere.
