  • What Am I 'Actually' Any Good At?

OK, well once again it can be seen that the career path I have been pushing myself in has probably been a bad idea from the start...so I am trying to figure out what I would actually be suited to. I hate writing lengthy reports, I can work hard and concentrate well, I learn quickly and have a keen intellect. I am thorough and accurate. I don't want to go back into research or science, my abortive attempts have left me with a bitter taste in my mouth...so what should I do?

Let's face it, my career path that I had chosen was very unsuitable, primarily to the 'writing lengthy reports' bit. Actually I would try and involve anything involving composition like that as I consider it to be one of my weaker points.

    So any ideas?

Hmmm, not really lucrative enough though

Well I know there is a broad base of knowledge and experience here, and you all know me as a person pretty well so I am looking for some pretty good ideas...

        How would we know?

There are professional career services that evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and pick suitable careers for you based on that. You can try that.

Perhaps the professional Bob Hoskins Impersonator circuit?

With a bit of coaching to get rid of the linguistic awkwardness, I'm sure journalism could be a good route.

Sometimes, maybe even more often than not, you end up doing something entirely different than what your studies are.

Ron Jeremy is not a porn star. He has risen to the honorable title 'Porn Legend'. He's arguably the best porn actor ever.

Great advice. He hates writing long reports, so the advice is "Journalist" and "Critic".

Ever considered something like Business Analyst? That involves writing reports too, but the money's better. Failing that, how about Financial Services?

You don't think I took any notice of Stew and his suggestion of journalist did you? It's always been the case, I hated English at school, it was a bit silly of me to do a degree that, although is a science, involves considerably essay writing.

Yeah, I am honestly considering anything like that, would sound far more suitable to me. Obviously my ideal job would be highly paid thinker/apolyton poster but that is out of the question

I could use a manservant. How good are you at a job with crap pay, long hours, and having to worship your boss?
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
