Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Figure it out genius.
I would like to see this lot step up and do their jobs instead.
I have no idea why you quoted my post, outside of your usual attempts to try and cause an argument, but even you can't be stupid enough to think that transit work is either hazardous or difficult.

Caligastia, A fine is an insufficient deterent. I think it should be illegal for a public union to strike. The penalty ought to be confiscation of all assets and a dissolution of the union - plus everyone who participates in the strike should be fired.
BTW, if they privatized transit, I would have a completely different attitude.

Under NY state law it already is illegal.

How can you people ***** about how they do nothing and how they make too much money and then say they can't strike because the city will grind to a halt without them at the same time?
I think you're just upset you wasted years of your life in college chasing sports cars and easy money, and that someone who does hard honest work can achieve just as much, or even more, then you.
I bet you're all posting these messages from a cubicle at work, too.

After three years on the job, a person driving a bus in New York City or cleaning a subway car makes about $50,000 a year base pay. That person gets -- ready? -- eight weeks off a year. Eight weeks, with full pay.
In addition, the worker only has to do one specific task each day, like clean two subway cars or something like that. After he or she is finished, they don't have anything else to do. So more workers have to be hired.

Could someone please tell me if this is true or just crap I heard flipping past Fox News?

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
The thing about fines is, if the strike is victorious, the city can agree to forgo them. That's why if they do this, they do it all the way. I expect Bush would step in though and order them back to work within minutes.
Ned, public workers have just as much right to strike against their employers as private workers. A boss is a boss, and the fact that you are a government body shouldn't exempt you from dealing fairly with your employees and prevent them from striking when you don't. The public has no right to expect its servents to work as slaves.
