Freak like me is a cool song.

And I forgot about Ms. Dynamite. She might go on my top 100 list as well. And what The Libertines are putting out is reasonably promising, but far from conclusive.

Freak like me is an "odd song"

doesnt necessarily make it good although it does have that "odd" allure

The better Canadian bands don't hit it big south of the border.

The current ones off the top of my head...
Matt Good Band (or now, just Matt Good)
          Our Lady Peace
          The Tragically Hip
          Great Big Sea
Barenaked Ladies (they're good for what they are, really )

And for all of the Americans that list some Canadian artists they hate, I assure you I can make a far larger list of American artists I hate.

And I honestly can't remember the last time I liked a new British band.

I like "odd". In moderate doses. I like the post-modern juxtaposition of two familiar elements. I like the avant-garde feeling of two pieces alomst, but not exactly, fitting together, creating unfamiliar harmonies and dissonances. I like the african-style polyrhythms that patchwork music like this, or most hip-hop, or most singnificantly Jamaican Dancehall are very able at conveying. Rhythmical complexity rocks.

              like the manchester scene,

there were the stone roses but then there were the inspiral carpets to be degrated completely into the whats their name... PARK LIFE! not to mention oasis *pukes*
Parklife is by Blur, who are not Mancunian...

Anyway, every country produces crap and every country produces good stuff...excluding Canada which just produces crap. How can the international community allow Canada to get away with atrocities like Celine Dion and Bryan Adams?

Give me Celine and Bryan over Spicegirls and West Life anyday (seriously).

At least Celine can sing and Bryan writes his own music.

All five of those are total crap, Leo.

Swollen Members is the worst out of the bunch, followed by Prozzak, Bif Naked, then Sum 41, then Cake.

Edit: You removed Swollen Members. Why?

Yes, we both have bad bands. But the point is, you don't have any good ones to reciprocate with whereas I do.

And don't blame us for Westlife, blame the Irish

Canada has many great bands, it's just that you either choose to ignore them or have never heard of them.

The UK is behind everyone else these days when it comes to music...

Like when "Push" topped the charts in 1997 in the US, it hit the charts in the UK in 1999, peaked at #47, then fell right off.

The UK has crap taste in music, collectively. Even worse than mainstream US or mainstream Canada.

                            I don't like Blur.
                            I don't like Oasis either.
                            I don't like Coldplay.
                            I don't like Radiohead.

What is it with British bands and exceedingly boring vocalists?

                            Put some feeling into it.

Why did Jaguar Warrior put Britain and Canada in the same grouping musically?

Britain's music scene is light years ahead of Canada's. Britain is arguably better than America if you take the differences in population into account.

Canada, on the other hand, is a musical backwater. They can't even keep up with Iceland, for god's sake.

To make a long story short, questioning the musical achievements of Canada is fine; they don't contribute anything. Questioning British achievements, however, is assinine. No country on earth is as productive musically.
