I seriously doubt that images of thin women in the media cause eating disorders, which seem to be a very deep developmental problem (ie one that starts very early in life), and thus very difficult to treat. I would agree that thin vogue allows a degree of cover to anorexic / bulemic girls, but I don't think that it is the root cause.
I have heard statements similar to yours many times in the past, and often from the same people who claim that there is a huge increase in domestic violence on Superbowl Sunday. The latter claim was proven to be demonstrably false, even though it was oft repeated and became the common wisdom for a decade. You wouldn't take the pronouncements of other political groups at face value, why give feminists the benefit of the doubt in this case?
