I think the solution is to remove the "Maximum Taxible Income" part of the FICA tax so the rich arn't treated like they have only $50,000. Then you would see the money pour in. The rich, of cour get what everyone else gets, its only fair that if you are rich you should give up some of you're wealth, if you don't like that then you're a big scrooge.

How's that in any way fair?

Doesn't that really mean that you are jealous, and you want what someone else has earned? Sounds like YOU are the greedy one.

ACK! The systems fucked to bits. The problem is that idle money doesn't grow, especially in the hands of the Government. A decent rate of return can't be guaranteed by private companies, especially if all workers have private pension funds.

The rest is smoke and mirrors.

Britains had awful problems supporting pensions, they cost £40 Billion a year, £666 pounds per man/woman and child in the UK and they're a completely miserly at around £80 a week. God knows how we're going to cope, since most baby boomers, current OAP's have paid their taxes assuming that the government pension could support them in old age.

David, are you saying that a senior who can't pay for thier medicine is greedy! How dare you call my grandmother greedy. How is it fair that the rich don't help people who need the money the most.

Filling in for David Floyd(my name's David too)

Because, regardless of emotional arguements, taking money from the rich via taxes is technically theft. Tax is theft and taking extra amounts of money without consent from the rich --even to give to a worthy cause-- is morally wrong.

Also taxing the rich extra, is like taxing the goose that lays the golden egg, they're the motivated ones who add to the economy.

Yes, they are greedy in that they see what someone else has and determine to take it through force. That's an example of greed, in my opinion.

In retrospect, though, greed might not be the right word. Theft is much more like it.

How dare you call my grandmother greedy.
Oh God, not another emotional appeal

I have grandparents too, but I don't use them as an excuse for Social Security. If you care about your grandmother that much, you'll help her out - that's what family is for.

How is it fair that the rich don't help people who need the money the most.
It's fair because they worked hard and earned the money, and now it is theirs. It's wrong to force them to give it up, although there are many examples of rich people giving greatly to charitable causes.

No, sharing is when I offer to help someone else out, out of kindness.

Theft is when someone forces me to at gunpoint.

Also, we cant afford to help my Grandmother because we are flat broke too.
                        How is that my problem?

You brought it up - don't bring up subjects you don't want to talk about, especially silly emotional appeals.

Don't we already have a thread on this?

Granted, the thread title on that one doesn't really say anything about Social Security, it just kinda got threadjacked to hell once we got off of the pressing topic of baby consumption.

And the government has power over theft and therefore you have to deal... or go to jail. You want to whine about your natural right, do it in jail. Tough, you've been overruled, Floyd.

People can save money and invest it in order to avoid being in the precarious position of not being able to pay for medications.

Many put off buying a brand new car their whole life, like my gramma, but she does have good health insurance.

BTW, all this government money ruins free market. Drug companies know they charge whatever they want and get away with it, because the supply of money is limitless.... it's the U.S. Government!

2 ibuprofen? $5. Cotton swabs, charge $3.50. Medicaid will pay for its professional application.
