Minor issue with the grammar: you used the 'estar' form of 'to be', but you should have used the 'ser' form of 'to be', as you are not describing a temporary condition of your being, or your father's being.

So:

Its from Spain. I first her it from an english speaker, whom in his long days of study had come upon it, and it was his favorite quote. It was in fact the president of my University.

On another off topic: the head of the biological sciences department in my alma mater is a Spaniard, and his university robes made him look like a sultan: most interesting acedemic robes at the whole event: it was hard not to stare at him as he spoke.

Mi lapsus pero soy siciliano no castellano asi es que no soy perfecto con mi espanol.
