That is definitely Shrewsbury, not Shrowsbury. Named after the Battle of the Shrew. Or something like that..

      Nope...
It used to be spelled Shroesbury (look at some old maps, pre-17th century).

It uses the same pronunciation as sew...

      Either, though, are valid pronunciations.

Better not introduce any Southerners to the town near me of Borth. They'd probably never finishing saying it..

Burry or Berry, Stew? I tend to alternate between the two for some bizarre reason...

castleford is funny when a southerner mentions them in relation to rugby league, they make it sound a really nice place by saying carstleford.

                  Clearly haven't been there
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

We could throw in the likes of Worcestershire here, or Leominster...or Dun Laoghaire (which I embarrassingly got wrong at the station in Dublin, much to the Mrs amusement).

There's a little village near to where I lived in Scotland called Kilcadzow, pronounced Kil-craig-y. Never did figure out how they managed that... makes Dalziel sound almost plausible.

I'm glad I was travelling out of the other ferry port, Tolls. I think it's Dun Logare...

Futile - as it looks. Same as mobile. Definitely not mobill.

Apparently it's something along the lines of Dun Leary, though quite how you get that second bit from that random collection of letters is beyond me.

Gaelic was invented to annoy the English...
