  • What's the Difference Between Cosmonauts and Astronauts?

Is this just a vestige of Cold War?

    Educate DanS.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

    Yep.

Not an issue to most people, so probably won't ever be changed. At least, not for a few decades would be my guess.

Yep. When the Kommies sent Gagarin into space as a cosmonaut, the Amerikos had to come up with another fancy name. The Russians won that one, obviously...
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
      Once again...

Oh, but wait a second, Hueij. No Kommies, no Kosmonauts, right?

I think Russia should recognize that "cosmonauts" is a lame throwback to the USSR and change it to something more civilized.

Cosmonauts sail through space and Astronauts sail to the stars. I don't know what Taikonauts do.

          "Cosmonaut" is the better word.

What are the Chinese going to call their spacemen once they get their act together?

Astronauts is a better word, because it describes a greater struggle--to sail to the stars.

              'Commie'-nauts?

Seriously, I don't have any problems with Communists...never bothered me. I'm a believer of Democracy, but not necessarily in pure USA-form. Riddled with problems this government is...

Only after you'll change your already lame "astronauts" to more lame "astro-nuts".
