These numbers should be looked at with a grain of salt. Our military is a professional force, which costs a lot of money to run. It has to compete with the private sector for bodies and minds, which costs lots of moolah.
We're going toward a defense budget of 4% of GDP. Historically, this is not an unduly high figure. Personally, I thought a 3% figure was just fine, but moving to 4% is not a very large swing upward in context.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter.
