I use MS Outlook 2002, and it works great. I don't think it has ever crashed. It used to hang all the time accessing my hotmail account, so I deleted that account, and everything now works great.

...Actually, when I was at home the other day on a different internet connection, I noticed that it wanted a "Common Client CC" to access the internet (according to ZoneAlarm). It doesn't seem to want to on my university network. Weird, but whatever. Hope it's not a virus. =P

I deliberately messed up my Outlook when it was apparent that a virus/trojan/etc. was interacting with it last year...

So, since I'm not using it as an exchange server, and since I can't keep the thing open long enough to adjust the accounts, I should look for and delete the appropriate .pst file, is that correct?

I am not sure what are all the settings stored in *.pst, however I wouldn't think that MS outlook automatically makes the connection. I would assume that the error is somewhere else. In registry or some other system file that is somehow connected to MS outlook. But give it a try, juist instead of deleting, just move the file.

Reason being in *.pst all your old e-mails that you kept are saved, and when you for example install a new version of MS Outlook on your PC (if you have dual boot for example) you can connect to your *.pst that the othere system has created and use the same file to connect to and continue storing all your e-mail without splitting up the folders etc... ensuring contiuity.

That is one of the useful features, and as you have to make the connection manually, and ms outlook functiones perfectly with the new *.pst file it has created I am not sure if some special settings are stored there that may mess up your present Outlook configuration.

However without losing the data move the *.pst file to another directory, as it will be the same as if you deleted it for the program, and you will be able to connect to it later to retrieve old e-mail in case this helps (if you want to try that).

Sorted. I shifted the 3 .pst files out, and started Outlook. It complained a bit, but I then removed the offending account, and moved the only .pst which hadn't been recreated back. I then re-added the account, making sure to leave out the sent items folder, which I think has gone pearshaped on the server. It now, touch wood, seems to work...
