Same as Stew / Boddington, plus the e-mail ring for just a little while.

And before that, a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....

We used to frequent the same all-night restaurant on Howard Avenue in Chicago. That was 20+ years ago, before he was Ming or I was Adam Smith. Neither one recognized the other, but I remember this strange aura of power and omniscience emanating from the booth by the window.....

I had no knowledge of ming during my Civ3 list posting days

however, after the second list I started lurking and occasionally posting on the OT (I saw ming do actions but never intereacted with him)

I was a very serious poster and almost never posted

than a little over a year ago, I had a summer internship

I started being on my computer all the time (about half my time was spent programming) (a lot of theoretical research has a lot of programming), and so started posting more

my psots, whiel still very important and serious, were not treated as such by ming and he banned me last summer

I have been posting (and getting moderated) fairly often ever sicnce

adam smith - that's freaky. You talked to him beforehand?

If not, how did you realize this fact?

I heard of his "dreadful banning for no reason" on ACOL. Poly Off-topic was described there as being a totalitarian regime compared to democratic anarchist ACOL.

I don't particularly mean being banned by Ming, though that's how I first saw him.
There's a quote by KrazyHorse about "Wow. 5 minutes to be rebanned. A new record".
If I didn't know Ming already, that would still get my attention.

It could be any experience, where you first noticed the evil that is Ming.

I have felt His presence for a while. That presence has been with me since my Apolyton inception, perhaps longer. His presence keeps me safe. He keeps me within the bounds of righteousness. He is all.

When I got here, Ming was just a regular poster like the rest of us.

He says some funny things quite frequently, but many probably are reading it like some religious artifact.

                    Orange:

We did not know each other at the time. It came up in a conversation after meeting on Apolyton.

His aura was not as strong then, but it was still there in a primitive form.....

I never used to be an Off-Topic guy, I was always on topic. Ming's been entirely helpful and welcoming in my on-topic life.

I hope to god he doesn't see any of my OT posts, though

In 1997 (IIRC), Iowa and a few other midwestern states suffered severe drought.

I had no idea that Ming was behind this -- I thought it was explained by the usual atmospheric phenomenon, but no -- it turned out to be Ming's doing!!

But that was before I even knew a forum called Apolyton.

When did I have my first encounter with Ming?

Must have been in 1999 when I was strolling around on ACS Forums.

I dunno, I posted for the first several months here on the Civ3 forums until I got tired of the game (about the time that Reynolds quit and Firaxis used the list as toilet paper), came over to the OTF to kill some time, eventually noticed that Ming was primarily responsible for the bannings/lockings/etc (with Markos being a secondary culprit). I don't recall it really hitting me like a ton of bricks or anything, it was more along the lines of "Oh, hey, people get banned here," something that I had never seen done on the Civ3 List threads (since people there generally weren't trolls, *******s, etc). It was at least a year or two before I realized that rah was Ming's brother.
