-4.75 in both eyes for shortsightedness

Allergy at end of summer (August) which has cropped up in the last 2-3 years (sneezing, itchiness, etc.)

      Allergy to pennicilin (hives, swelling)

Other than that, good health. Getting to be in decent shape. I've been running a bit lately (last 2-3 months). 20 mins 3 times a week. First day I ran 5 minutes (albeit rather fast pace) before I started getting rubbery feeling in my legs, short breath etc.

Now I'm starting to feel like my old self again...

Myopia & Astigmatism (-4 in left eye, -0.5 in right)
The left eye was caused by an accident when I was 2. I was watching some builders drill some stone and a chip flew up and sliced my eye open. I am going to have laser surgery to fix this.

Back pain (stemming from being badly beaten up)

Multiple Sclerosis (November Adam: you are not alone )

I also have something 'wrong' with my nerve signal transport system, which makes the electrical impulses sent to my brain (or spine) move almost twice as fast as normal. This gives me abnormally fast reactions with no other known symptoms, so I wouldn't regard it as 'bad'. (I was told this has something to do with the mechanisms with govern K-Na switching in the nerves or somesuch.... )

Allergic to nuts (the food, not Devilmunchkin).

Other than that I am perfectly healthy

Not very much really, short-sightedness and that's about it.

            - Slight nearsightedness (I wear glasses only for TV and class though)
            - Slightly overweight (but I work out)
            - Warts on my back (have them since birth and don't plan to remove them)
            - Poikilochrous pytiriasis (I'm half way on curing that)
            - High cholesterol (working out and eating with moderation)

                  Rogan Josh...

how are you dealing with the fatigue? Mine hits me so hard some days I need a nap. It's also interfering with my work. Fortunately I talked to some people at the hospital and they told me how cooling helps. I'm in a relapse right now... have been for about 6 months, and I'm beeing hit hard with nerve pain in my hands, and now my legs and feet. They are trying to control it with medication, but it is having a limited success. But as a side effect it is increasing my fatigue. Fortunately as of late I can work from home, so I can rest when I need to, but I'm only managing at the most 6hours of work a day.

The other problem is the depression... it has been making me moody. Cranky as hell most of the times, which isn't good with a new baby around!

You sound a lot worse than me - I seem to have a very mild form. At the moment I am in remission, so I have no symptoms at all and feel great.

During an 'attack' (or whatever you are supposed to call them) I don't really suffer from fatigue either. I feel fine 'mentally' - it only affects my feeling in my arms and legs and my ability to coordinate them. I have never been paralysed but I have lost my sense of proprioception (sp?) - ie. the ability to know where my arm is without watching it. But mainly I just go numb.

I do find that the drugs (steroids) they give me to treat it make me really tired. I just want to curl up in a corner and die basically. The doctors say that the episode will go away on its own without treatment, but will just take longer to go away without the drugs, so I am tempted to tell them I don't want treatment any more. I think a longer period of numbness is more desirable than being completely non-functional. With numbness I can still go to work and everything - my only worry would be that without the drugs it will go passed the simple proprioception loss into paralysis. Or even worse - the damage might become bad enough to leave permanent scars (I have a few of these already but my brain was able to find alternate routes for the signals).

I am not convinced the doctors know what they are doing.

I suppose your symptoms just depend on which part of the brain the MS is affecting. Presumably it is attacking the bit of your brain which gets the pain signals. With me it is mainly the touch part, so I think I have been reasonably lucky. Also, my longest episode lasted about 3 months. Your episode of 6 months sounds awfully long! Are they getting longer?

No kidding, I'm so turned off right now, blech!

                          Alright, lessee...

Nearsighted (I can see how many fingers you're holding up at 4 feet, so it's pretty bad). I wear glasses and contacts. Astygmatism as well.

The toenail on my right big toe is a little gnarly, thanks to a mediocre foot doctor handling an ingrown toenail when I was 13 or 14.

My right front tooth was chipped on the edge of a sidewalk when I was about 11 or so, and I have a porcelain crown.

When I was little, I was slightly anemic and took iron supplements. Not a problem now.

I was overweight for much of my adolescence, reaching an amazing 225 lbs when I was 17 (being 5'8, that's a biiiiiiit much). However, I am now 155 lbs and in pretty good shape, going to the gym 3-4 times a week and eating very healthy, not eating red meat, pork or poultry.

I have very mild allergies which are mostly non-existent except in extreme conditions (very high pollen counts or a profuse number of cats).

I can't eat raw onions, because it sparks a nasty condition in my tummy.

Just had a physical, and my blood pressure is perfect, cholesterol low, excellent hearing and a full head of hair that, judging by my family, will be there until I die.

Now, I am worried about inheriting some things from my family that may show up later. My mom and her mother both developed chronic digestive problems, my grandmother developed an allergy to chocolate in her 40s (I would die!), and she also was diagnosed with alzheimer's, which I know isn't proven hereditary, but it still scares me. Fortunately for her, the massive lung cancer killed her before it had much effect.

So I'm mostly pretty fit and healthy. I think living in NY has really beefed up my immunity, as I now rarely get sick at all, except for a mild cold about once a year. I'm probably a carrier and am spreading germs to the rural areas every time I go home for the holidays.

I can't really know if they are getting longer due to the fact I was only recently diagnosed... but in hindsight the things that did affect me in the past didn't last very long (short periods of numbness, strange heating sensations).

The doctor doesn't want to put me on steroids cause I was on them recently for Bell's Palzy, this is when the side of your face losses feeling.

I'm glad you have a mild form, I think mine may be moderate.

I've asked the doctors if this pain in my hands will go away and he says it's likely but they have no idea when. All I know is that computer work exaggerates it, but any other work is too tiring. So I'm going to try to do phone work (at a customer rep desk), possibly at a bank, or the cable company. So hopefully that helps!

That is what I was told about the numbness too. They can't really say because the inflamation could leave permanent scarring. As I said before, mine did, but my brain has worked around it.

That is strange -- that doesn't sound like MS. Since the problem is entirely in your brain, why would using your hands make it worse? I don't understand. I didn't find uing the affected parts made it any better or worse.

I presume your have had an MRI lately. Is the inflamation localised or all over the brain?
