PH, you say the foetus is not advanced enough to be affected by the mother's choice of having an abortion.

By that very same premise, you could support eutanasia of severely mentally disabled people. Which is kind of unsettling.

Given your ignorant attitude, perhaps you were busy dodging coathangers in those precious first stages of mental development.

Just why are you so keen on abortion anyway. Perhaps you and a gf had a child coming, and you were scared of taking resposibility for your actions

It is unsettling isn't it, but it is a fact. If someone is braindead, the life support is switched off even though they are still perfectly fit biologically. Doesn't this amount to the same?

            Damn!

Ming, you beat me to it. Between the frivolous complaint and the continued personal insults, I was going to nail him myself.

              Lungron, et al.:

For some *strange* reason or another, I've always thought that abortion could be reduced by the following methods:

              1. Responsible sex. IOW, use protection.
              2. Sex education. And, yes, abstinence would be *part* of the curriculum.
              3. Birth control. This includes condoms and drugs that prevent fertilization.
              4. Adoption. This one is self-explanatory.

The last time I checked, screaming your lungs out while protesting and intimidating women on the street didn't reduce the abortion rate. Nor does reckless, promiscuous sex.

Yes, but where is the harm in letting people live? Babies can be adopted, and the mentally disabled can live perfectly good lives, contributing to other people just like you and me.

I just don't get the fundamentalist abortion stance that unwanted babies must be killed because it's the mother's right to choose. What if the law chose adoption for her instead?

I support both. It may be unsettling, but I cant see how someone who is severely mentally disabled can possibly lead a full life. I can only imagine it as misery.

Ah you're OK mods, I can handle this lightweight, my mother says worse things to me than that

                    And now, back to Winston:

Why does everyone think that I have a 'fundamentalist' stance on these things, for goodness sake. The fact is that the foetus at this stage does not possess sentience, we are not talking like someone who is retarded which is way ahead of this...it all comes down to an issue of definition. The issue is, the foetus hasn't lived a life.

And another thing is that the foetus is dependent on the mother, and thus, it is the mothers perogative what she wants to do with her own body...a basic human right.

You said severely mentally disabled. How can someone who is severely mentally disabled live "a perfectly good life, contributing to other people just like you and me"?

Cali, maybe they can't all contribute, but that's no reason to kill them.

PH, you argue that the unborn child is dependant on the mother, so it's her decision if the child is going to live or die. That's a bogus argument. Because someone is dependant on you, you don't have the right to terminate them.

For me the reason would be if they are so tormented by their condition that their life can be nothing but suffering with no hope of relief. Is it really worth keeping alive someone who has to be restrained 24-7 to keep them from hurting themselves? All they do is sit there and chew off their own lips. To me it seems more humane to end it for them.

Cali, we were originally talking about being sufficiently disabled as to not being aware of whether you're killed or not. As a parallel to the "not advanced enough" foetus PH used as an argument for abortion.

I say you can't legitimize killing people just because they aren't developed enough to resist.

It is. It should be banned, unless the pregnant women's life is in danger. You can support anticonception, but supporting abortion is disgusting.
