What's sad is Apolyton is full of people with above-average intelligence and wisdom. If you asked the average person in the streets of, say, LA, I'm sure the results would be much worse.

I wonder if any of the Canadians found the comedy aspects of the post, from Mulroney criticizing the US to the bad pun of head of the conservatives...

He was a Prime Minister in the 80s who did stuff like abolish the National Energy Policy (much to the joy of the US) and signed NAFTA (much to the joy of the US). He has a big head, and it's just funny.

He's certainly not as great as the Right Honourable Joe Clark, however.

But if you actually want anyone outside the State of Canadia

to pay attention to your politicians, you have to do something to piss off the US. Otherwise, they have as much relevance as the foreign policy proclamations of the Berkeley city council.

Mexican support for the Republic in the Spanish Civil War? About all I can think of...

Mexico's recent decision to leave the Rio Treaty certainly isn't consistent with US foreign policy. The media isn't covering it, however, so the public isn't going to have any reason to know who Vincente Fox is.

It was meant to expose the fact that most American know nothing about Canadian politics, yet are still willing to flap their big mouths about it. The thread didn't really achieve that purpose, but I don't think that Asher's hypothesis is wrong. Most American are friggin' idiots...
