we really didnt get much help from 9/11 execpt for military forces which was really to help their own country from terrisom. america helps everytime somebody is in trouble we always give money and forces but hardly ever get thanked for it.
I wonder why, though ALL developped countries give money for internation help, and most of them give more on a per capita basis than USA, and not any of them is thanked more than USA, why it's ALWAYS Americans who whine they are never thanked.

I can't remember seeing anyone but Americans yelling that their country is the best, the most generous, that we are all ungrateful bastards and so on.

ffirst we have gave the most money to the united nation, and you think america can just give people money without having to be repaid we do u think we get our money off a tree we have to work for it. america is trillions of dollar in debt but we still help.
Isn't the USA that have the biggest late in payment for UNO ? You've got a nerve to say that USA is generous with UNO when in fact it's the one having the highest not paid debt.
BTW : the principle to "give" is NOT to be "repaid". To give something in exchange of something else is called TRADE, not GIFT.

And please, stop to constantly bringing this old propaganda text. It's really tiring to see it on all the boards where a patriot fanboy happen to walk. Do you see any German or British to post ten times a 30-years old newspaper saying any good about his country ?
(waiting for the surprising "that's because there isn't any" answer).

          Blablablah.
France is also constantly bashed, but I happens to take it with more humour and not jump in hysterical chauvinist rants.

              Thanks for the edit.

And you'd better give valid points in that case... America has its good points and its bad points, but I've only seen you make up incorrect arguments here (aircraft, moon landings, relief aid, UN payments).

Hey! Ameriko's are the nicest and most generous people on the planet! They were fighting for Freedom and Democracy while the rest of us ungratefuls were still swinging from trees.

Too bad they don't eat grass so we could put a fence around them...
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
                Once again...

One Reporter's Opinion: They Hate Us, But They Love Our Money
                  George Putnam
                  Friday, June 7, 2002
                  [Part I of II]

It is this reporter's opinion that in the midst of dislike and criticism of the United States, at a moment when the French, in particular, criticize our president as a "gun-happy cowboy who is promoting a unilateral policy of international violence," who better to speak up for the USA and our people than those who have come to our citizenship by choice. They have lived elsewhere, have known the privations – yes, even slavery – under totalitarianism.

One such person is my friend, Soviet Jewry activist, proud American and Lithuanian-born Si Frumkin. His family suffered first under Stalin's communism, then under Hitler and the Nazis. As a young boy, he was subjected to slave labor in the Dachau Nazi concentration camp. Twenty days before we liberated his Lithuanian homeland, his father died of starvation. Si was 14 when the U.S. Army liberated him from the labor camp.

When he speaks, Si speaks from the heart. Listen to his words:

"Europe gave us two World Wars. It gave us fascism and communism – the two murderous ideologies that were responsible for hundreds of millions of victims. Europe gave us nationalism and colonialism, developed the pernicious philosophies of cultural relativism, socialism, Marxism and the dogma that government bureaucrats know best how to spend the money citizens earn. Europe gave us new meaning to the words 'appeasement' and 'Munich.' It added new words to our language: 'Gulag,' 'Holocaust' and 'police state.' "

My friend, Si Frumkin, speaks of America's gifts to humanity by contrast. We gave the world computers, working satellites, the Internet, air-conditioning and inexpensive automobiles for the masses. Our TV, movies and music entertain hundreds of millions around the globe. And, yes, we also developed the nuclear bomb, which prevented Europe from becoming an extension of the Soviet empire.

Perhaps there's a bit of jealousy when Europe's elite, especially the French, criticize America, because Europe is no longer the center of culture, economic power, military might and technology. They can't face the fact that they cannot compete with American productivity – our ability to provide better and more comfortable lives for ordinary people.

And perhaps they've forgotten that America has saved Europe again and again from being enslaved by totalitarian gangsters, Nazis and communists.

My friend should be an example to us all. Si Frumkin says, "I used to be a European. Now I am a proud American – proud to fly the flag of the United States. We, the immigrants, did that long before 9-11. We know what it stands for – a better life, hope for a better future, more opportunities for the millions who manage to come here from the old world. And like the hero of 'Gone With the Wind,' an American classic seen by millions worldwide and representing just a small example of our despised American culture, I say to the French and others who don't like us: 'Frankly, my dears, I don't give a damn.' "

Thank you, Si Frumkin! You are one of our very best Americans. You made the choice.

NOTE: Si is a journalist who publishes a periodical called "Graffiti for Intellectuals" for the Southern California Council for Soviet Jews. Founded in 1969 by Si, SCCSJ is the only membership organization in Southern California dedicated to the struggle for the rights of Jews in what was the former Soviet Union. While emigration was restricted and human rights violations were commonplace, the SCCSJ organized massive public demonstrations and letter-writing campaigns, and maintained direct contacts with Jewish activists.

The legendary George Putnam is 87 years young and a veteran of 67 years as a reporter, broadcaster and commentator ... and is still going strong. George is part of the all-star line-up of Southern California's KPLS Radio – Hot Talk AM 830.

And now, for your enjoyment, a song by a truly great American.

neighbors, nobody loves you like we do
                    neighbors, your government has
triumphed in finally making you a public fit for the 21st century
never before has a governing body shown so much concern
for the economic well-being of its subjects
today we have insulated you from countless
                    factions who threaten your financial viability; such as the poor;
                    the idealistic foreigners still clinging to their childish notions of social welfare;
why, you're even kept uninformed of useless propagandist
journalism that reports alleged violations of human rights
(we all know they wouldn't have been punished if they hadn't been doing something wrong!!)
and who better to dispense such blatantly evident factoids but
                    a self-appointed authority like myself?
acid rain is a thing of the past... too many possible causes, too
little significance for our modern thinking public, besides industrial
manufacturing is at an all-time low anyway, who needs those narrow
minded laborers anyway, too many mouths to feed,
and too much burden on the payroll!
who needs 'em here in the land of the free time
some other ass-backward country will give us
what we need by exploiting its uneducated children
the internet has expanded our ability to pacify average americans better
than ever by offering fantastical adventures
to every corner of the imagination
your home office is the window to your world,
and the heart of your social life
such reclusive behavior helps clear the roads and
public works from overburden like the lower middle class
and others who depend shamelessly on their government
today you are freer than ever to
do what you want, provided you can pay for it!
remember, the first word in usa is us!
we have arrived, neighbors, we are the privileged elite!

This thread is a good example of why not to say some things on poly.

The funny thing is that many of us are humble, incredibly hard-working people who can take directly on the chin the criticism leveled at us. You can be sure that if another scourge like Hitler or communism threatened, we would help all over again, no questions asked.

But anytime we make any sentiment of pride in who we are or what we've accomplished, critics accuse of chest-thumping chauvinism when that isn't the case at all. I'm just as critical as I am proud of our country, but I dont consider either to be mutually exclusive of one another, rather a healthy sign of free, open society.
"Perhaps a new spirit is rising among us. If it is, let us trace its movements and pray that our own inner being may be sensitive to its guidance, for we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness that seems so close around us." --MLK Jr.

This is all true, but Europe also developed all the opposites of all those things.

Working satellites: As far as I know, Sputnik "worked" perfectly.

                          Internet: That's American alright.

Air-conditioning: Woop-de-doo. Move over printing press, wheat domestication and internal combustion engine.

Inexpensive automobile for the masses: Sorry, that was Hitler's idea first.

TV, movies, music: Yeah that's good.

Atom bomb: Didn't prevent half of Europe becoming an extension of the USSR. The ground work was developed by European scientists. This invention could still result in the extinction of the human race.

Yes, I know that America has played in important role in developing many new technologies in the last century, but the same is true for Europe, the Soviet Union and Japan. I don't see what makes the USA so special in that regard.
