I can say the exact same to you and I will.

Your points make no sense. The government can tell the teacher what to teach BY CIRRICULUM. They can not forbid certain 'words' which are not curse words. I can imagine the Teachers' Unions having an utter fit if what you believed could happen actually would.

And might I add you stated what is consistant with the cirriculum, which indicates that the school board goes through each and every word, otherwise you can't say she went against the cirriculum, since she taught a vocabulary word.

Also as Wraith pointed out, she's a government employee, which means she is protected by the First Amendment, so sorry, they can't say she can't teach that word when a student brought it up in class.

      Sorry, try again.

What is your point? The government has nothing to do with this. Nothing you have said so far convinces me that this teacher went against the cirriculum.

What makes you think its the most hated word in the english language? The only country its even used in is the USA, and blacks are one of the groups that use it here (yo nigga), so I guess they dont hate it very much. Of those that hate it probably a large majority are white liberals like you. Are you saying that the people that hate it here in the US hate it so much that it makes up for the lack of hatred in every other english speaking country in the world? Wow, youre really hateful!

Its disliked in England and certain lentil munchers want to make it the most hated howver Its realy only used by white football holigans and the like.

Having said that a nursing union official had to resign for using the word when quoting the title of an Agatha Christie book in public

Im from New Zealand, and nobody uses it there. I have also lived in England and I never heard it there either. I guess I wasnt hanging out with those types.

                  How ridiculous!

I still think its a stretch to call it "the most hated word in the english language".

I'm sorry, my train of thought required the reader to use their own brain and fill in the words that would make it flow logically (e.g. people who are stupid are often stupid concerning matters of racism). Now you've made me waste even more of my own precious time! Boo!

Are you under the impression that the above is a logical sequence of thoughts? And you're still illiterate.

I never said that this teacher went against the curriculum. Wraith said that government run schools can't tell their teachers what to teach. You are foolishly trying to defend that statement. What I said was that the government (obviously) can tell techers at public schools what and what not to teach. I NEVER SAID ONE WORD ABOUT THIS TEACHER.

And, you don't have to be a government employee to be protected by the 1st admendment. This isn't a 1st admendment issue. The only issue I raised was the ability of the government to control its teachers while they are on the job - and that they have every right to do.

--"my train of thought required the reader to use their own brain"

Now see, that was your first mistake.

--"Wraith said that government run schools can't tell their teachers what to teach."

Ahem. Correction. What I said was:

Government schools have no business whatsoever telling their teachers which words they can and cannot use.
                        Different thing entirely.

And yes, it is a First Amendment issue. The government has an effective monopoly on teaching. They certainly have an overwhelming majority of the market, and can take over the rest any time they want. If they start disallowing the teaching of perfectly good words, this is far worse than simple censorship. What happens when teachers can no longer use words like "communist" or "fascist" because they're offensive to some people?

                        Thought control is doubleplusungood.

                        • Its not thought control, its curriculum control. If you say its not a good idea for the government to have an official list, I probably agree. But to say the government CAN'T give dictates to its teachers is wrong. There are too many underqualified teachers out there to give them carte blanche.

                          • --"Its not thought control, its curriculum control."

It is thought control, a very basic form. The schools already practice it quite widely.

With vocabulary it's particularly disturbing. Denying that people can be taught certain words is an attempt to deny people the ability to grasp the concepts connected to those words. My comment above about communism and fascism wasn't meant in jest.

They're already doing this (there was a First Amendment related thread recenty about how few US school kids understood it) to a large degree, and I don't like that at all. It's why I rarely pass up a chance to complain about US public schools. If they extend this to the utter basics, namely vocabulary, then the public school system will be impossible to save. Then we have to start worrying about them trying to excise words like that from, say, already published books. Just keep an eye on what's been happening around books like Huckleberry Finn.

Regardless of your (or anyone reading this thread) opinion of Ayn Rand, her essay "The Comprachicos" was dead on, and I would encourage you to read it.

Yes you did. Look what Wraith said, and then you said yes they can. THAT MEANS CIRRICULUM! I'm sorry if you can't form that easy logical relationship, but I've witnessed that you are logically challenged.
