Not to forget that there are probably styles of music as of yet undeveloped Snapcase hates already.

Why would I want to teach my children that music is a dry, intellectual, art-establishment excercise?
Bah. Classical music (or better between 1500 and 1750) is pure fun. It moves me with a smile or a tear more than pop music with its constant hammering of percussion.

Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

Ahh, nostalgia. I'm sure they only let you litsen to the mild pieces by Papa Haydn at the retirement home.

My guess is that Snapcase's children would eventually rebel against him by becoming prog. rock and classical listeners.
          And Led Zeppelin.

I hear childrens' music tastes depend largely on what they heard as infants and in the womb.

Haydn composed mostly after 1750. I'd prefer Bach, Desprez, Monteverdi, Purcell ...

Why would I inflict classical music on my children? Poor things...

And music in the US seems to be alive and kicking. Listened to several hours of Drowning Pool and System of a Down today...

Buck, I doubt that... My parents don't really listen to music... If anything it is Elvis and the likes.

                  Not quite my style...

You're right carver, today's crap bothers me too sometimes, especially those wannabee rappers with golden necklaces, rings and ornaments, with names such as poof diddy or whatever...

reminds me of that **** from nickelback that told some Belgian interviewer that european rock is low quality, the only 'real' rock music can be found in northern america... pretty funny, not only is he quite offensive to all those european viewers, he also forgets that pretty much all of the best rock is made in the uk, and belgium too (no really! )

Luckily we have a fine radio station that plays classical music all the time and for once actually isn't boring or old fashioned in any way!

I don't know about you but the only European country I have ever really heard rock is from the British Isles. The rest of it is electronic or the ever-sickening Euro-pop.

yer, that's it really, the thing is you guys don't know european rock bands unless they're commercial and well known around the world...maybe it's the same thing over there, i've no idea...

as a matter of fact I think there is some pretty good music here, and it's for the best that they don't go for the top-50 charts and all, because one way or another, sooner or later, the music starts sucking... don't know why but it's just like that

electronic do you mean techno and hardcore and that kind of stuff?

                        and what is euro-pop?

Depends what you call rock. If you mean that tedious muzak produced by the likes of rolling stones or creed, then you are absolutely right.

If you mean music with some life in it, like Rammstein, System of a Down, Offspring etc, then both sides of the pond are equally capable.

Carver, Timbaland, Miss-E Elliott, Tweet, Bubba Sparxxx, etc. Timbaland, Elliot and crew are producing some fantastic stuff. Definately in the catagory of art.

Something is wrong with American culture when I can go to the store and see 100 CDs from manufactured barbie doll Shakira, but can't find one of the greatest musical works ever

I actually experienced the same: at my local blockbuster (well, not really a blockbuster because there was a porn section ) I could find a compilation of 10 movies on dvd starring Marlene Dietrich sold at 30 euros (same as 30 bucks for you lazy yankee guys) while "deep throats 2" and "4 hours gangbang marathon" were sold at 29.99 each.
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
