since the bible literary and clearly says that we will not know when the end of times will come, and since it seems that much americans take the bible literarly, your theories are in conflict.
The Bible doesn't say that. It says no one will know the hour or the day. Fundamentalists take that pretty literly and figure the YEAR is not covered by it. They aren't sure of the exact of the birth of Jesus either so they have all the wiggle room they want to avoid that anyway.

wow, your first reply is already filled with the "I know everything and everyone who disagrees is an idiot and I'm omniscient and ooooh all bow for me since I'm really amazing with all my knowledge of the truth" thing you usually drop in after about 20 replies......why so fast?
Since you are claiming you don't believe that end should have come in the Year 2000 then you may also think the Secretary of the Interior Watts was a bloody idiot when he said we should use up all our resources because the end is comeing Real Soon Now. Thats an idiot. He deserves to be called an idiot and anyone that agreed with him had to have addeled brains.

The world is still here. He was wrong. He was an idiot. Still is as far as can tell.

And there comes the always easy to use "We are the only ones who thinks" kind of arguments. That's right, we hate thinking. In fact I never think. Oh yeah, that's right, I hate thinking in fact. Fortunately there are people like you, oh holy ehtelred, who want to think for us! Thanks again!
You showed no sign of thinking on at least this post anyway. Watt deserved to be called an idiot.

As I said the world is still here. He said it wouldn't be.

someobody tell me to stop saying thanks, I can't think about stopping since I can't think! That's because I hate it.
That was your usual well thought out rejoinder. Nothing but hot air. Not one word that showed any error on my part. Just complaining that I have an opinion that you don't like.

I didn't even mention you. Unless of course you assumed that 'idiot' referred specificly to you even though it clearly referred to Reagan's Secretary of the Interior and other Milenial Morons like him. Remember, if they weren't idiots the world would have ended and you wouldn't be reading this.

    thanks again ethelred.

    *gasp*
Your welcome. I wasn't refering to you but if you want to take it personally that doesn't say much in your favor.

59% believe the prophecies in the Book of Revelation will come true.
32% of the Dutch think that NFL Europe will one day replace Snooker as a past-time of choice.
I knew Christianity was a bit larger in the US than in Europe, but this is extreme. Why is this, and what are your toughts on it?

          My 2 cents explanation:

Religion, god and beliefs has always grown on fears and hopes of people. Religion is always most successful in times of trouble.
In countries with less developped social cares, people have to rely on 'the good divinity' that will protect them from whatever misfortune ("Please Father, protect us from ...").
I think it is no surprise that most churches hate it when the social system is secular hands. In Europe the catholic church has fought socialism with extreme violence (Ever heard of the spanish civil war, sponsored by the CatChu. Many catholic extremists join the nazis in their anti-bolchevic campaign). This means that the good people won't be in state of believing that charity comes from God only.

I think that because of their history, the USA are very sensible on religious rights. Unfortunately, the religious rights have turned into 'churchious' rights. The churches in the USA still play a very high role in social cares. They dispense their goodness 'in the name of God'... and those who benefit from those goodnesses, really, honestly believe that: "God cares for them".

I think the Hamas for the Pals play the same role, caring for the people "in the name of God"... and in return the thankfull people are ready to sacrifice their life for this caring God.

I don't say this is THE explanation, but it could be one.

The question is: what about Canada? More like Europe or more like US?

            A Time/CNN poll.

It has been published in Time Magazine of August 19, 2002 in the article "Apocalypse Now" by Nancy Gibbs.

I see. Like it's better to be ignorant about your own country?
Kind of a "Buy you books, send you to school, and what do you do, eat the teacher" situation?

No. Just curious why Christianity is so popular in the USA, and far less in Europe. Enlighten my with your insights in this matter.

I think the problem is that Christians legislate their morality. "Under God", prostitution, drugs...

If they want to practice their religion, fine, but don't try to legislate your morality.
To us, it is the BEAST.
