  • SIGNS - This movie sucks major arse!

Just saw M. Night Shyalaman's latest offering, and I have to say that it is truly a steaming pile of dung!

I loved 6th Sense and Unbreakable, but this was a poor effort with 'M' basically riding on his success. Basically IMO he's sold out by appealing to the lowest common denominator...

The previews on TV were excellent with nothing much really being given away (except it has stuff to do with sinister crop circles!). The film is very suspenseful and for the first half hour or so is very entertaining, but the actions of the characters seem inplausible during the middle and then everything seems to fall away very sharply with an absolutely ludicrous ending...

That and the completely banal 'message' just made me want to puke by the end...

Still, I guess if it was aimed at the same audience as all the 'dumb small town American' cliches liberally spread throughout the movie - then it's hit it's mark...

3/10 If only because it was a good start...

Can we have a :steamingdung: smiley please?
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

The only rel complaint that I had with the movie was the girl. Overall, I thought it was OK.

saw it last night, i agree...it's a 2 star movie IMO. Not absolutely horrible, but pretty crappy. Those aliens are pretty much the most scientifically unreasonable in the history of science fiction

Alright the aliens may be unreasonable but I liked the movie. I would give it a 7/10 - 8/10.

That is so nice of you to call everyone who liked the movie and enjoyed it, "dumb small town Americans."

That was a bit strong I guess!

Well, Americans in general complain how the rest of the World stereotypes them as being a bit simple, and then you have an entire movie of characters who fit that stereotype to a tee...

There are lots of reasons why you might like this movie apart from being dumb - you might find watching the equivalent of a 'B' movie hilarious...

My problem is that I greatly enjoyed both of M's first movies, and indications were that I'd enjoy this one too. Yes I had allowed my expectations to be built up and consequently felt ripped off!

It's like a small town version of 'War of the Worlds' with a bit of quasi-religious mumbo jumbo thrown in for good measure. Frankly I didn't enjoy my intelligence being insulted in the manner that it was...

I thought it was an excellent movie, easily Shyalaman's strongest work to date, IMO.

You should have known about the plot and themes running through the movie from the trailers and reviews.

Actually, in the countries I am used to inhabiting they don't blow the entire plot to sh*t on the trailers...

The trailers in OZ had Mel and family living on a farm surrounded by rustling corn stalks, barking dogs, the crop circles, the fact that crop circles were happening in India and Mel running around in the cornfield in the dark with a torch and catching a glimpse of an inhuman leg disappearing into the corn.

I guess it is assumed that Australians actually have an imagination and don't want to know how the movie is going to end before even seeing it...

In fact if I'd know it was about aliens, most of the great suspense that I did enjoy in the beginning of the movie for not knowing what was going to happen next would have been completely lost!

Now I come to think of it, I do remember the US trailers - what is the point of even seeing the movie after seeing those!!?
