have they resigned of their own volition, or been "deposed"? I recall there was at least one pope who was forced to step down at the end of the Great Schism, who turned up a tad dead just a short while later.

in Saint Peter there's this statue of a "future Pope"? turning away from his hat in the most frightened way.

so i thiught it symbolized that this particular "pope" didnt want to be pope

i asked about that later but noone knew what i was talking about like the statue didnt exist

      any clues on that?

i thought he had to have his speeches read for him now

i saw an article recently that said the pope was still lucid and was able to write sermons, etc. he just isn't physically able to deliver them anymore. maybe they should give up the PR battle and let him use a wheelchair

I sure hope he does resign, he has shown in the recent pedophilia scanadal a real failure to handle to the problems of the Church.

Truly, it is time for the pope to retire. This is getting ridiculous.

As for the next, pope: perhaps the papacy ought to be offered to a patriarch of the Orthodox church in order to heal the schism.

Aren't they still fighting over the meaning of "filioque"?

Why would he want to retire ?

In his condition? You have to remember, he's only 30. It's all that free stuff that makes him appear he's 150.

BTW, I'm amazed at the "Methodist" rememberance.
