Of course Texans on Apolyton have strange ideas of what constitutes the Right Wing.

Plus Texas has a state religion that you may not be ready for.

FOOTBALL. American Football. High school, college, and profesional all are Holy in Texas and must be worshiped during the season.

    Texmex is good food though.

I don't know what job you are getting, but unless they are willing to wait for about 12 months before you bstart working, green card isn;t the way to go.

You should apply for a H-1 visa first. It is a temporary workvisa, valid for 2x3 years, and is fairly easily handled. After you have your H-1 you can apply for a green card if you want to.

AFAIK, the vast majority of highly skilled foreign workers in the US are here in a H-1 visa the first couple of years.

If you have already been accepted for a job the company you're hoping to work for may be able to help you.

Oh, Pekka, if your mother could have carried you for just two more days, you wouldn't have any problem now ...

Actually, Austin sucks. It's a classic example of Urban sprawl. You want heaven on earth, go 100 miles west to Junction.

Why would you go to TExas in the first place? I've yet to meet a European who like Texas... But I'm met dozens who hated it.

Try California or the East Coast. I'm in Pasadena (greater LA area) and I really like it.

No offense to the native texans was meant, though. I'm just saying that Texas doesn't seem to fit well with Europeans.

Pasadena is a nice little city. Gets real cold by Southern California standards sometimes. It used to have terrible smog frequently(as in at least 200 days a year) but the smog levels are way down from when I was kid. Its in the foothills and that is where the smog tends to back up in the afternoons. My dad had photos from his office where the mountains were clear and bright and close in the morning and invisible in the haze in the afternoon despite there nearness.

Hehehe, I'm longing for the cold... Since I'm a swede I'm not really built for the Southern Cal climate...

The smog really isn't a problem anymore. I can see the hills from my office, and it is rare that I can't see the tips.

                      Where did your dad work?

He worked at an engineering firm on Colorado Blvd. The parking lot is, or at least was, used for the parade. The photos were taken from the north side of the building looking across Colorado IRC. This was back in the mid 70's.

Pasadena has had snow a few times in my life. Rarely lasts more than it takes to make the papers. If you havn't been there long be prepared for rain this winter. Lots of rain as it looks an El Nino is coming this year. You might get snow but its not likely.

Hey, I live two blocks from Colorado, right by Lake.

I don't mind the rain, and I will seriously miss the snow... Lucky it is driving distance to skiing

                              Texas is like America^2.
"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency
"That’s the future of the Democratic Party: providing Republicans with a number of cute (but not that bright) comfort women." - Adam Yoshida, Canada's gift to the world
