We really need to get the Libertarian horde here to make this thread more entertaining for the lurkers in this thread (ie me). Fez just isn't carring out his part of the debate.

I suspect David Floyd is one but I think he is avoiding me. Libertarians get used to argueing with people that are liberal because they are liberal. I don't fit the profile of those easy marks.

I ran into one Libertarian that thought unlimited population was a good thing. He had no reply to a simple geometric progression. Couldn't handle the inherent result of more humans than there is mass in the Universe I guess. It doesn't take long to get there at four or five doubling per century.

Sorry to interrupt, but in regards to the original story:

What further lengths these miserable irrelevant dustmites will
go to for publicity eludes me. They are a sinking ship, and a very minor party, having lost a lot of ground here in SA over the past federal and state elections, and consequently, take any opportunity to continue their self deception.

I'm sure that the US does not give a rats tossbag over the depraved mutterings of the SA head of the Australian Democrats, which echo from deep in the waste disposal unit of history.
In the words of Bill Shakespeare, they "are a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Anyway, one is against any type of democracy.

Now, you may return to your regularly scheduled flaming.
Whether you like it or not, history is on our side.
        We will bury you.

        - N.S. Khrushchev

Boris: I love CATO, you hate its guts. Simple. Now lets move on? I have different opinions about politics, and so do you. I believe in the right, you believe in the left. That is called politics, each side has a point and the left usually talks about the poor and I don't ignore the poor. I try to help them with all means using capitalist methods.

Ethelred, on the other hand is a full blown idiot with no idea what politics are.

My economic beliefs, if you go into them deep enough are tied with corporatism (and even deeper tied with Franco's economic beliefs) and low regressive taxation. Progressive taxation is like progressive cancer, it threatens democracy and the economic system.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

I'm sure that running a medium sized party into the ground is harder then it looks.

I'm sure being Natasha is harder than it looks - noone could be that f*cked up without trying.

As for that cow Meg Lees - where does she get off holding onto her seat? Traitorous wart on the body politic.

True, but you could say that about anybody who switches allegiance whilst in office though ...

As an aside I'm surprised anybody even gave this enough credence to comment on it. Its not exactly a new political dodge to blame "outside influences" for ones setbacks.

And I would - I see loyalty as most important in politics - its my upbringing I guess.

Hey Case - I bought that house in Waniassa. Expect to see you round there with welcoming flowers next month

by calling themselves the grand ol party, I dont think they are refering themsellves as being older than the democrats. I think instead they are just saying they are an old party....

So if I don't know what I am talking about why is calling me an idiot the best you can do. That was pathetic. Even by your standards.

Franco? You have to be kiddding. That tin pot dictator kept Spains economy in the crapper till after he died. No wonder you don't make any sense. The Cato Instupid and Franco are diametricaly opposed. Even the fools at Cato aren't dumb enough to be pro Franco.

You obviously don't know **** about Franco and the economic boom that occured in the 1960s. The economy was growing because of him and is what it is today because of him.

                              Stupid fool.

                                Back on topic

Just to raise the signal to noise ratio of this thread, and to prevent our American Bretheren from completely overrunning the conversation with their inane drivel about the politics of a typical "think tank" organization on their beltway.

The latest on the Democrats. (NOT the US version, though many in the US and outside World wish it were)

Natasha is back, and in control. The recalcitrant senator has been given 1 week to consider his position. It seems that the "democratically" elected senators are complaining that the party has too much say in the running of their portfolios. Odd for a party called "Democrats".

Anyway, I certainly hope that they self destruct.
I also hope that some way is found to ensure that the Upper house (the Senate - something Roman about that, I always expect to see the honourable senators in Toga's) does not imped the legislation of the Lower house (the Representatives - although just who they represent is a moot point). That way, we the public will really have to think carefully about giving our vote instead of the current situation where we vote one party in Government and the other party in the Senate to block our first vote.
