1 cable goes straight from the MB to your CD Recorder

The CDROM would not be in the split but in the end...

if you have 2 slots, then the HD and the CD go on the same ribbon
The CD Recorder goes on its own, no question!

          OK HOLD THE PRESS!

I'm gonna open up the case and see if that damn 3rd slot is an IDE slot or not. I will take out the IDE cable of the CDROM and try it on on that 3rd slot.

If it fits, it's an IDE slot, right?

But I'll do it after I get some hours of sleep, cause my grey cells are starting to fade out

Ok, thanks for the advices, they have been crystal clear except for that part Ethelred posted...

Will talk to you in a few hours.

I'll not open up the case before seeing this thread, so if there is anything else please tell me

          Again thanks guys

I didnt understand all of the rest of the post, but THAT was exactly what I would do, if there's not a 3rd IDE slot.
I didn't notice if you had more than two hard drives.

IF you have one or two hard drives

Both hard drives should go on the PRIMARY IDE connection. One must be set to Master and the other must be set to Slave.

The CD ROM and the CD Burner should go on the Secondary IDE cable. One as Master and the other as Slave. I would recommend setting the CD burner as the master UNLESS you have a DVD player and not a CD ROM. In that case the DVD player often needs to be the Master.

If you have three IDE connectors that is something I don't know about. I would have to look up your mother board online and that means I have to know which mother board it is.

Retrive the model number of the mobo. It will be easier that way.

Not a good way to do it. The CD recorder will almost certainly slow down the hard drive. CD burners don't have to be on their own. It does help though. If its on the same cable as the CD ROM that can make direct copying from one to the other a bit problematic due to bus conflicts.

I just checked the instructions (yeah I cheated, I didnt go to bed) and they seem to support reds4ever's option.

They say: Primary: HD+CDROM and Secondary: BURNER.

But the HD is at the end of the cable and the CDROM is in the split something that I cannot do.

In any case, in the best case scenario, that I do have 3 IDE slots, do I make all three masters?

                  HD master?
                  CDROM master?
                  and BURNER master?

Older mobos don't have 3 EIDE slots. New ones have 4.

Haven't seen one with three those have to be real oddballs

                      P22

Your MB has only 2 IDE Cable connectors (the Blue & White ones) and 1 Floppy drive connector (the black one). Each IDE connector can have two drives. The white IDE is 33Mgh and blue is either 66 or 100 Mgh. Leave the HD on its own IDE cable and put the old CDROM & the new CD burner on the other cable. Make the CD burner the Master and the old CDROM the Slave. Remember to keep the CD Burner in the upper most slot.

To do that I'd have to switch cables since the IDE cable where the CDROM is doesnt have a split (another socket on it).

The IDE cable of the HD DOES have a split.

Is it a problem if I switch them?

(BTW I'll definitely ask tech support on that one sinc the opinions differe seriously )

33MB? That's gotta to be pretty old.

Please send link to a MB with 4 IDE connectors (i.e. is able to handle 6 IBE devices as this is better than standard SCSI interface).

The white one is for the CDROM. It does not have a split!

The other one, the dark one, which goes to the HD, does have a split.
